Anyone have to deal with Pancreatitis

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks out and had to go to the ER yesterday morning for pain and vomitting. They ran every test.. No leaks. But i was told i have pancreatitis. They pushed iv liquids gave me some antibiotics. Today they sent me home with more antibiotics and to stay on Clear Liquids. I have no gallbladder so nothing there to fix.

Hasanyone else had to deal with this and if so what helped? I tried some Jello and it didnt settle. My craving for ice Water is gone and the thought of putting anything in me is not a happy one. Any helpfull thoughts appreciated.

I threw up and had nausea 24/7 for almost my entire year. I completely feel your pain. I wdid awesome my first 2 mosths then all hell broke loose. After being in and out of hospitals and being sick everyday i askd to be referred to another surgeon. The mew dr did an upper endoscopy and immediately dx me with bile reflux. I was stared on 3 medicines and slowly began getting better. But it took about 3-4 months before really feeling human again. They suggested doing another surg but I was not sold on that.

Hope you feel better soon. After not eating for 5 weeks I pretty much lived on frozen pops and Water for months. It took everything i had to gag down Protein drinks. I've been healthy for almost 2 years and have lost 160 pounds, i prior to surg i weighed 330.

Firstly congrats on your weight loss and thank you for sharing your story.

I was 301 in January when I started all this and was 256 on my surgery day the 14th of this month.

Secondly i totally feel you pain with the Protein drinks. Before surgery i didnt have issues drinking them, now however, they taste so beyond nasty. I use clear Isopure Protein Drinks my surgeons office suggest and they taste like sour milk now.

I'm very happy with my surgeon, he is the best and takes no bull from anyone, it's the other docs I'm not to sure about. They aren't up to speed with dealing with bariatric patients and lets face it there is alot to follow up on.

Im just worried stopping my type 2 diabetuc meds might be a factor in the pancreatitis. I called to make an appt with my pcp and found out age is no longer at the clinic so now have to find a new one in the middle of this mess.

Could your surgeon refer you to an endocrinologist that has experience with bariatric patients? Perhaps a specialist in managing diabetes and pancreatic issues would help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
