Started Liquid Diet Today - Observations

Recommended Posts

So I began my 2-week liquid diet today (RNYGB is scheduled for 8/8). I'm noticing a few things right off the bat - warning - this may be TMI: I've been peeing like CRAZY, and when I feel the urge, it is all of a sudden and incredibly urgent. I felt a bit deprived today as I'm taking in 900-1000 calories per day (I pray this improves), BUT the good news is that my nutritionist provided me with dietary guidelines that allow for solid food consumption in addition to the Protein Drinks I'm taking in.

Question: has anyone experienced this pee pee phenomenon? Why does it occur?

Thanks for the support, as always!

Could just be the massive intake of fluids. I have not had the surgery yet but for previous procedures I've had that required a liquid diet just for the day before, I found myself having that issue. Hopefully today or the next will not be like this for you because your body will have adjusted to new Fluid levels...maybe??? Let us know how it plays out because I'm sure more of us will experience this and will have the same question.

Hello everyone! My surgery is also 8/8! I am having a lap-band conversion to GB. When I did this diet for my lap-band I also peed A LOT but it ended up being because of all the "sugar-free" stuff I was eating/drinking. It apparently irritated my bladder so that was bad news. Try to drink more Water (sounds counter intuitive but) it will help your bladder not be overwhelmed by the sugery free stuff. Excited to start my journey for good this time! Good luck!

I've been on mine as well. I'm visibly taking in more liquids than I used to. I have the sudden urge to pee as well but I feel it's because I'm intaking more liquid than food to maintain satiety so I chug some and then it all gets to my bladder at once. Plus, I imagine we are flushing some toxins out of our bodies that we didnt know we had. Purging bad stuff will make you pee as well. Kind of like when you're sick.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
