Grocery run! Essentials?!

Recommended Posts

I have my surgery 8/2. Running to store. Any essentials I need?!

First week is Clear liquids.

Second week is liquids (Protein shakes, etc.)

Then I'll shop again.

Was going to get sf Jello, chicken broth, veggie broth, Vitamin Water zero, Gatorade zero, crystal light but need more suggestions or variety!

Second week: Premier Protein, SF apple sauce, sf pudding, but need more suggestion and variety also!

I have unflavored Protein for first week.

I also have gas ex strips. And I don't start Vitamins till third week.

I backed out round one but this time... I'm IN!

Any other essentials?

Thanks!

Powerade zero was my go to, although I do like G2 fierce grape. If you have a sonic nearby get a bag of their ice. I loved it post-op. I also loved my Yeti tumbler. That combined with the ice kept my drinks cold for hours. It made all the sipping much easier. Get some sugar free ice pops as well.

I wouldn't overload on stuff. Your taste buds will change and things you loved pre op you may not care for after.

You likely don't need as much variety as you think. Don't overshop -- most people find themselves chucking large amounts of food/drink at the end of various stages because they really overestimated how much they'd be taking in post-op.

Agreed above posts.

30oz Yeti cup is ideal.

Also, no need to buy a bunch of stuff. I went through a few 2-4 Premier Protien shakes per day for the first two weeks. Those and lots of Water were all I needed.

I bought tons and can't touch it. Yuck. I have been getting panera Soups and straining. Canned is just gross to me. Before I would have been fine with canned.

Like everyone said don't over shop for your post op diets. I did it and wasted just about everything. Powerade zero has always been my go to drink, and sugar free popsicles. During my pre op diet they were lifesavers for me, that and Jello. I would drink premier Protein shakes pre op. But after surgery I couldn't drink the premier shakes anymore and I was sick of the Jello. I still love my sf popsicles though and they help you get your liquids in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
