My NUT said sashimi was fine for soft foods phase, but no rice. Sticky rice especially is off limits for 3-6 months. I hope to avoid rice for life as much as possible for weight control. I'm at 4 weeks post op and on soft foods. I've pulled the fish off the tops of nigiri and dismantled some cali rolls to get the crab and avocado out. It was great having wasabi again. It all went down fine.

Raw fish is on my plan at the soft food stage and so is rice (in small amounts, after you get your Protein in.)

I'm finding I'm eating such small amounts of Protein that there's no room for any carbs after on my plan at this point in time. So I won't be touching rice personally. But rice is allowed on my plan and must be on others. They all vary.

It was definitely the rice. I'm very surprised your surgeon and NUT didn't do a better job explaining the restrictions. Rice/Bread/Starches were drilled into me as things to avoid because they expand and fill you up too fast and potentially cause discomfort.

For the first six months to a year while your in the loosing period also definitely focus more on Protein foods than anything else.

I have never been told 'no carbs' so it's funny to see how different our plans are. Rice is specifically IN my plan as something I CAN try but I have been warned that it might feel too heavy and some people avoid it because of that issue.

Not to further belabor the point, but...

I'm still rice-less at over three years out. After 1-2 pieces of sushi with rice and I tend to get very uncomfortable to the point of vomiting. I was told it expands but I'm not a doctor or a scientist, so...

I eat sushi without rice. All the same rolls, I just ask them the roll it in seaweed or cucumber. If they don't get it or can't do it, I just peel the rice off (usually making a mess) and have at it.

Sorry this happened to you! I'm hoping to eventually enjoy a piece or two of sushi down the road...I'm 5 months PO gastric bypass and am afraid to try rice at this point because of all the problems I've seen other people post about it [emoji15] For now I'll just enjoy all the things that I can have and watch the scale go down!

naruto rolls are amazing. I am looking forward to trying one when I am further along. That's when they wrap the fish in cucumber instead of rice and seaweed. So fresh and delicious.

I can eat one roll with rice, but I LOVE really good sashimi. Yep, too early for rice. Take your time chewing. I mean really over chew everything for the next couple of weeks. Gulps hurt, so don't do that (unless you like pain and puking, then knock yourself out).

I think everyone is different bc I have ate sushi and it didn't hurt me! Of course I can't or won't eat it like I used to but its better for you than fried foods!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
