The truth about ibuprofen...

Recommended Posts

@@KristenLe I've been told by multiple doctors that the hs should get better if I lose weight. I am really hopeful that is the case. It is just really rough right now without being able to use the one thing that gave me relief.

Just my experience, but after a year I started taking Ibuprofen for my chronic neck pain. I tried the long-acting alternatives, but because meds pass through the stomach so quickly I was only getting 6 hours max of relief. After about 3-4 months I was in the hospital with severe gastritis. No more NSAIDS for me, ever.

This is something I need to talk to my surgeon about. I have a pretty rough case of hidradentis suppurativa and am prone to getting very large masses under my arms. I've relied on ibuprofen in the past to help with the pain and swelling. It was the only thing that seemed to work. Right after my surgery I had a lovely outbreak under my arm and pretty much had to deal with it without my trust ibuprofen. Even now I have a huge hole where the thing used to be (sorry, I know that is gross). Only other thing I can do is get antibiotics but I am allergic to so many of them and my doctor does not want me to develop a resistance to the few antibiotics I can take.

Warm compresses don't help. I've tried changing so many things as I've dealt with this problem my entire life. I had surgery under my left arm a few years ago to remove all the heavily damaged tissue and now this crap has started under my right arm. The last surgeon completely butchered my arm. I have nerve damage and the skin is so tight that it cracks and pops open if I stretch my arm out too much.

I have the same condition under both my arms :(( . Very sad and debilitating disease isn't it?! Ugh I hate it. I take Humira for it now but I still get break outs if I'm a day late on my Humira. I'll be getting the sleeve in November. I'm hoping weight loss and eating healthy will fix it. Since you're now losing weight and eating healthy, has it HS gotten any better?

@@marchmellow Yes and no. While I haven't had any new abscesses in a while I have had complications with one that is leading to me having yet another surgery sometime in the next two months. I think it is a combo of the weight loss and not having a cycle due to my bc that is leading to it. The thing under my arm from before surgery still hasn't healed. It has been growing granulation tissue. The doctor uses silver nitrate but it keeps coming back. It's gone from the size of a pencil eraser to a good 3/4 inch wide. She wants to do surgery on there to "scoop" the whole area out. They won't prescribe me anything for it. I love KP but they can be so cheap with medications sometimes (seriously, I have a Platinum plan and they only cover one type of basal and fast-acting insulin pens).

Sleeved ~11 months ago.

Use ibuprofen with the blessings of my surgeon.

No issues.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
