Hello everyone I'm new here, I'm 3 days post op and I'm having a terrible time with gas, no matter how slow I sip my fluids, or how much I walk I cannot get rid of it, I'm still in the hospital and they even gave me some liquid gas drop which didn't help at all but it did make me vomit! Please share with me what you guys did to make the gas go away, IM DESPERATE!

Oh man, I'm kinda jealous that your still in the hospital! I only got 1 night there, and it's been horrible here at home. The gas blockage is out of control. Just burping here and there and walking like a crazy woman has been all that's helped me. I'm 3 days post op too, and I'm exhausted and wish I could still be getting liquid pain meds through the IV. Because these pills aren't doing anything!!!

So far I've just tried to walk for 10 minutes as soon as I'm done eating, and trying not to inhale as I take in my food, it sounds crazy but I'll kind of put the spoon in my mouth blow all the air out and then quickly close my mouth and remove the spoon, I've gotten some relief from that.

If you have a slight fever, sounds like you need to be calling your doctor. Gas is one thing, but fever is another issue.

Sorry to hear that, I'm in Germany my husband is military so were stationed here, and there policies for this surgery require a minimum 5-6 day stay in hospital, today is post op day 5 for me and I finally get to go home, I'm happy that they required me to stay because Thursday was the first day o started feeling back to normal and able to get up and move about without the help of the nurse! I attempted the bypass surgery in the states and as soon as Dr. got started he punctured my colon and I had the worst experience ever as far as treatment from nurses and surgeon for that matter and I was sent home 2 days later! Anyways I hope you find some relief soon, and I will definitely let you know if I find any kind of remedy for the gas situation!

Walk, no matter how painful i am 5 days post op. The 3rd day was the worst. Just walk as much as u can. You wont start feeling relief until u do.

The 3rd day was the worst for me too, it's getting better tho, I'm now 5 days post op and being discharged today, im very happy to be going home, but walking has really helped, I think it was just hard for me to walk for a long time initially cause I was so swollen and drugged up but they took me off IV meds shortly after this post and I started feeling better and able to walk longer so that has helped! Good luck on your journey, I'd love to keep in contact and follow each other's progress!

Gas pains were the worst part of the whole procedure! My 2nd day I had my wife bring out heating pad from home and I placed it longways down my back and it was incredible! I did that for about another 2 days, along with walking as much as possible, and it went away. 3 weeks post op now and feeling great. It gets much better, but anyone doing the surgery BRING A HEATING PAD! You'll be so glad you did!

Can't the hospital provide a heating pad? Feels odd to have to bring one from home.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
