Had my initial Plastics consultation

Recommended Posts

So I had my plastics consult.. My surgeon said that she's had really good luck with insurances paying for most of the plastics..

We are trying for a 360 lift, I have good reason, cause I get rashes in the back where I sweat a lot (TMI, but butt crack area :( ). She also believes I don't need much in way of a breast lift, just removal of some skin to tighten them up.

She also thinks I don't need arms redone, but a little Lipo she says will tighten my arm, and then I'm hoping for a little neck lift as well..

I'm so excited!

Good for you! Plastics was an excellent decision for me. I am now almost 2 years out from my first surgery and over a year out from my last surgery and everyday I am thankful for what I look like thanks, largely in part, to my brilliant plastic surgeon.

@@Jesm1029 - Supposedly rule of thumb is waiting to you are at goal and stable for 6 no the to a year before having surgery. My NUT is insistent that I wait at least 18 months to 24 months post-op to have surgery. Having said that, I reached goal at 1 year and had my PS consultation right at 1 year and have scheduled my first surgery for October which will be 16 months post-op. My plastics surgeon just asks that you are at goal and stable for 3 months (which I will be). My bariatric surgeon and counselor (and various other drs) are fine with me preceding now. There are a few folks on here who had surgery less than a year out but I think when you get to or close to goal is really a better determination.

I just had my first plastics on Thursday of last week. I started with my arms and 3 to 4 months from now intend on having a Abdominalplasty and breast lift with augmentation.

I am nearly 23 months post op from RNY,and I reached goal in March of this year.

I still have not figured out why some insurances cover the cosmetic surgeries and some do not. Unfortunately mine does not and the costs have to come out of my pocket.

From what I understand if it is reconstruction it is covered such as someone who has had breast cancer and now needs their breasts reconstructed.

The scary thing is, if anything goes wrong like you get an infection and have to go to the hospital insurance can deny those costs as well because they would have been caused by cosmetic surgery.

Honestly, this is one insurance rule that needs to change. Obesity is a disease and reconstruction is necessary in a lot of cases.

Many times simply having the apron of skin removed is covered but if your muscles need tightening to give you that tight stomach you are on your own. Most of us need that tightening......

Anyway for now I guess if I want anything done it has to come out of my own pocket.

No and we tried too. Sadly my insurance has very specific rules about what it will cover (eg the pannus must hang x number of inches past the pubic bone) and I didn't meet those criteria. Showed pictures of rashes and such... Documented treatments. They still didn't cover a penny.

@@Djmohr, how did the surgery go and how are you feeling?

I had my first surgery at nine months post op (within 10 pounds of my goal) and will have me second surgery in December. First I had brachioplasty and breast lift/augmentation and neither were covered by my insurance. In December I will have a TT and inner thigh lift. The TT will be covered with the exception of a new belly button....makes no sense, but I guess it's not medically necessary to have a belly button...lol, so I will pay $2,000 for that.

Our surgeon suggested it at my one year appointment to go ahead and make my plastics for my next follow up(which was 3 months after. It will be about a little over a year and half out if I have it in November.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
