Feeling frustrated-Not going to meet the goal

Recommended Posts

I've never been given a calorie target and never been told how much weight I SHOULD lose. Odd. When I asked my NUT about the calories, her reply was if I ate according to plan, I'd get enough in.

Oddly also, when we were discussing Condiments as I transitioned to a regular diet, basically she said I did not need to go low fat options. Her reasoning? Say my meal included 2 meatballs and I wanted to put BBQ Sauce on them, it was only 2 little meatballs- they can't HOLD that much sauce to get me into trouble. Same with a small salad and dressing, etc. Now, I have never cared for anything floating in condiments, but for some that may be a dangerous "go ahead"! Perhaps she told me this because she knows my eating habits so well? Don't know.

As for my surgeon- has never given me a goal to lose since pre op. He did mention at my 3 month appointment that months 3-9 were the "sweet spot" for the most weight loss. I laughed because by that point I'd already dropped the equivalent of a fourth grader and didn't think it could get better than that!

Good luck!

Helen, I had surgery on May 20th so I'm in week 8. I've lost about 40 pounds so far and I was concerned that my weight loss was already slowing down. I wasn't expecting to hear 600 calories! I don't know if I can maintain that unless I go back to Protein shakes. Yuck!

Oh no! I hope you are able to restore her posts soon. She always has some great insight and I love her explanation of the three week stall.

Wow. 40 lbs in 8 weeks is fantsstic! I had my sleeve on May 10 and am down 30. Maybe the surgeon meant to do the 600 cal for a day or 2 to change things up so your body starts losing again. And no carbs would be extremely hard as it would mean no vegetables, no fruits or whole grains.

If it were me I would check back for clarification with you surgeon to understand how long he wants you to eat the restricted diet and why.

So sorry your surgeon feels the need to add extra stress to an already

stressful situation! Hang in there and just keep doing what you know to

be the right things.

I figured Babbs blocked me because I couldn't see posts. I'm glad it wasn't me.

Man, I wish that people we blocked couldn't see us! I have a daily visitor to my profile looking for things to "back up". I can't see that person but that person sure likes to see me!! :D

Really? That's kinda creepy! There should be an 'block' feature like Facebook has. I haven't had the need to ignore anyone yet, but if I do, I'd want that person to be unable to see any of my stuff.

Sad, isn't it?

@@FabFemale,

Our bodies don’t always get the messages about the goals that we (or our nutritionists) set! If you’re doing everything right, you will lose weight, just like you are doing. It will just be on your body’s timeline, not on anyone else’s.

It sounds like you’ve still lost a great amount of weight! You lost 8 lbs in the last 6 weeks or so? That’s great – and here’s why. Because that’s a time when a lot of WLS patients hit their first stall. They may go for a week or a few weeks without losing anything! So you’re doing fine. Don't get down on yourself. Be proud.

If I can do that I wouldn't need the surgery! Wow!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
