Can you eat all this in a day? HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, might be hard for some to believe but I'm a vegetarian who is about to get the VSG surgery. (crazy how I still have weight issues) But I'm wondering if people can successfully consume the food items I have listed below. If it does work for people, I plan to do this for a while I guess :S

(2) 30g premier Protein shakes

(http://www.premierprotein.com/sites/premierprotein.dev.manifest.com/files/styles/height_150/public/ProductImage_PP_Shake_11oz_Tetra_Choc_DC_US.jpg?itok=t1EYFNlt )

(1) 14g Greek Yogurt

Would you guys be able to fit all 3 of these things in a whole day to satisfy a day's worth of Protein? And how long would it take for someone to finish the premier Protein shake which is 11mL. Can you guys also tell me how far long are you? And lastly including consuming all of these items, would you be able to eat more than just this (fruits/veggies) in a whole day? Sorry for a lot of questions, but I would appreciate the response!

Thanks

You can get all of that in but it won't be easy, especially at first. You will need to sip, sip, sip all day.

I doubt you will be able to eat the yogurt early on, it can be dense.

You might be better off with 3 shakes a day. It took me about 1 to 1.5 hours to finish a shake. Since they were a liquid, I could just sip on them as long as it took to get them in. The 20 minute rule didn't apply to liquids like Protein shakes. If you know a good veggie broth you like, I would suggest getting an unflavored Protein powder to add to the broth.

All of my vegan or vegetarian friends are fat, except one that I think is just naturally thin. They are the worst sugar addicts I have ever met in my life. And there are tons of great Vegan treats in Chicago, which doesn't help. The metaphysical place that closed down about 12 years ago on the north side use to have the best vegan Cookies, I wasn't even Vegan and I used to devour them.

LOL, no way. I drink 16 ounces of Water in like 5-10 minutes.

I can drink a Protein shake in 5-10 minutes. I only grab them in emergency. They do nothing for hunger at this point.

I used to be able to chug 16 ounces of Water without taking a breath before surgery, and I was really worried about never being able to drink fast. I don't have that worry anymore

At about 6 months I could drink faster and it got faster each month. I was trying to time myself today on how long it took me to drink a bottle of water.

It takes me about 25 minutes to walk my dog on the circuit we walk and I drink a bottle of water in that amount of time, and that is with long breaks for picking up poop and trying to remind my dog he is not a rottweiler but a toy breed.

I want to clarify something. liquids do not trigger restriction. It only feels like it is triggering restriction in the beginning because people are sore from the tubing they use during the operation, and the stomach is swollen and trying to heal. As you heal and the swelling goes down, liquids go down easier, with a noticeable difference at 6 months when you are fully healed. If you have a live swallow test you can watch on the screen, you can see fluids empty immediately into your small intestines. They seep through like sand through an hourglass. Now some people have issues because of strictures etc, but I think even people that post here with strictures have no issues with liquids.

@@LipstickLady do you have a hard time with your coke zero through the straw with your stricture?

@@OutsideMatchInside I really appreciate your answer, thanks for clarifying it makes more sense now :) Because 1-1.5 would seem to be annoying for the rest of your life :o

@@OutsideMatchInside I was so glad to see that you drink a shake in 5-10 minutes. I'm also about a year out and was concerned about the fact I could drink one in about 15 minutes, although I do try to sip on it to stretch it out a bit.

I have been kind of slamming them lately because I feel like they go bad fast in 90 plus degree heat. So if I am grabbing one as I am heading out because I forgot to eat, I try to drink them ASAP.

I had greek yogurt on day 2 (it is part of my plan) and I can drink a Protein Shake in 5 mins easily at almost 6 weeks out.

I am 10 days post op. I buy both the 8 oz abd 16.9 oz bottled waters. So I drink one (8oz) within 30 min of waking and it takes me less than 10 min to get it down.

I eat about 30-60 min later

about 1/4 cup of cream of wheat (just because I really have loved it since childhood)

When I go back to work, I will have premier Protein shakes instead. I can drink one in about 30 min. I drank them like that before surgery sometimes over an hr!

8oz Water 30 min later

30 mim later a Triple Zero greek yogurt w/15g Protein. I can get it in easily over 10 min. I don't try and rush it. I use a baby spoon and just enjoy it.

I eat lunch and dinner. I will typically have a yogurt in between meals whether its mid afternoon or late evening.

My kids always have something going on so either during transporting them to and from their activities or during a game I'll sip on a Protein shake. I even have a plastic Starbucks coffee cup that I sip it out of.

I take a 16.9oz bottled Water with me anytime I leave my house. It's what i do while driving. I make sure to drink most of it all by the time I get to my destination and if there's any left i just take it with me.

We went to the movies the other day, i stuck a Protein Shake in my purse to sip on. Same thing when I went to the hair salon.

So basically yes i am able to do it. I have to make a conscious effort to do so. I'm still on liquids but to ensure that I get my protein in for now, I make a habit of grabbing a shake or yogurt especially if there is a long event, game, or car trip.

Same with water.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
