My surgery was yesterday at 10. Everything went well. I had trouble waking up from the anesthesia. So I slept a lot. Pain was not bad all. I had what's called the Dr. Mccarty mini sleeve so there is only 2 small incisions, he takes the stomach out through your mouth like an EGD. Less down time. 2 incisions One in my belly button and one below my rib cage. I am in my hotel room and will be driving back home with my kids today. We are in Dallas and ready to get away from all this police shootings. I haven't had trouble drinking except for the very beginning. I couldn't leave the hospital until I passed my 8oz Water challenge. And as soon as got to my room drinking wasn't that big of a deal.

I'm hoping to do the McCarty mini sleeve too! I have a phone consult with him next Wednesday. (I'm in Oklahoma)

I had a phone consult as well, since I live 7 hours away from Dallas. They were all great!

How was the experience, I've been looking into his procedure but I've found so bad reviews . How's the weightloss been ?

I did have surgery with Dr McCarty and it was the best experience ever. Very little pain. Two tiny incisions I can see (would have been only one but they had to reposition so I have one extra that's less than a centimeter long. I took pain meds for 1 day post op and 2 nights. I went back to work in a week and a half but could have gone back sooner. I feel like my recovery was a non event. Dr McCarty is the nicest guy you could ever hope to work with. I'd do it again tomorrow. I'm down 86 pounds and still slowly losing despite some major life upheavals which would have way laid me in the past. I have my life back and am living a normal healthy life.

When did you have the surgery? You didn't have to stay at the hospital did you?

I had surgery August 16th. I didn't live local so I stayed in a hotel. I was released from the surgery center around 4 the afternoon of surgery. Stayed in a hotel that night. Did my leak test the following morning and my boyfriend drove me home.

I don't live local either , I live in Ohio. I've read some bad reviews on him which is making me second guess going to him , but I've read really good reviews too. When you talked to him did he give you any info such as how many surgeries he's preformed such as the mini sleeve?

I've had no trouble with it. I am down 50 lbs in 9 months. I am now 5'6 159 lbs. The thing with weight loss surgery is you think it's gonna be a quick fix. And it is in the beginning. For the first 4 months I lost 32 lbs. And I stayed there for 4 months. Then in February, I got serious about losing weight and I lost 18 lbs in 6 weeks. They say the gastric sleeve will only help you lose about 60% or so of excess weight, and that's the truth if you only rely on the surgery. I will forever have to watch what I eat, or I will gain. It's just easier to watch your intake when your stomach is small. But there are days of snacking throughout the day where before I know it I've eaten 2000+ calories. But if you follow a meal plan and stick to whole foods, you will lose. No matter what surgery you go through. I will never have it easy.

What I meant was I've seen bad reviews about Dr MCCarty. Such as abusing alcohol and drugs, just wondered if they were really true

He's been performing bariatric surgery since the late 90s. He's done thousands and thousands. He developed the Mini sleeve and he does them daily. I trust him implicitly. I read the 1 review about alcohol abuse that you mentioned. I don't really believe that. If it did happen it was written 5 years ago if I remember correctly. He's fit, energetic, charismatic and bright eyed. (He's also eye candy... Lol!) I don't believe that review at all.

Well, I wouldn't have trusted him to do my surgery if I thought my life was in danger. I'm a wife & mom of 3 young girls.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
