Anyone else have surgery around June 22, 2016?

Recommended Posts

Hi, looking for people who had surgery around the same date I did so we can compare our progress and help support each other as needed. I am older than most of the people having the VSG (I am 68), my BMI was 67.1 when I started 2 weeks preop. I started at 310 lbs and lost 15 lbs by the day of surgery but then on postop day 3 I was up to 299 lbs. I had been on BP meds and one of them was a diuretic (Water pill). They had me stop that 2 days postop as I left the hospital (so I wouldn't get dehydrated) and I am only down to 298.2 lbs today (down 11.8 lbs since I started but less than 1 lb since surgery). I'm a nurse and I know the problem. I have retained Fluid in my calves, ankles and feet that has stunted my wt loss. The good news is I'm off all 4 of my BP meds already and I think I may have started to stop retaining anymore Fluid. Time and the scale will tell. I haven't gone off my prescribed diet at all. I am on post op day 12 and I still am only allowed (mandatory: 2 Protein shakes a day plus 64 oz Water minimum) plus broth, diet koolaide, and/or diet jellopopsicles as desired. I'm tolerating them but the broth is all I really enjoy, I have 1 cup broth per day (but it has 880 mg sodium in it which I know is too high). I am healing well except for redness and itchiness around all my 5 incision sites. They think it is an allergic reaction to something but not sure what. Well, that's pretty much my story, If anyone wants to comment, please do. Happy July 4th by the way. :0)

I was sleeved June 22nd as well. Today I have my follow up appt with my surgeon and meeting with a nutritionist to go over step 3 of my reintroduction to eating solids.

Hw: 295

Sw:288

Cw:273

I did a 2 week pre op high Protein diet followed by a 2 week post op full/clear liquids and tomorrow I can start reintroducing food. Soft foods first then more solids as my body sees fit.

I do have diabetes and they took me off metformin right after surgery. No complications but I am on bloodthinners for 3 months post op as a precaution due to being on HBC.

:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
