I have been working out for almost a year now, slowed down during summer, but now I am working back up to what I was...I am able to do 60 min on the elliptical plus I am doing weight machines.

My husband asked if I should stop for now, and after I am banded, start back up again...kind of like re-reving my body.

I know that you start out slowly, walking etc...but how soon can you resume vigirous activity?

I know that it is weird, but I honestly enjoy it. I NEVER in a million years thought that I would say that!

Thank you~

Brandy

Hey Brandy,

I had the same concern before I got my surgery, I worked out frequently prior to surgery as well. I got my surgery 3 weeks ago. I started walking for an hour at lunch a week after my surgery and yesterday I went to the gym and had a full blown workout. I ran for 30 mins, did the eliptical for 30 mins and then worked my upper body and did squats and lunges. Today I am a little sore (as would be expected after not working out for 3 weeks) but other than that, I am surprised at how my fitness level did not decline as much as I would have expected. Hope this helps :-)

Good luck to you!

After surgery you will probably have to wait to do anything besides walking for about 4-6 weeks, depending upon your doc. And I wouldn't stop working out until a day before your surgery, it can only help with the heal/recovery time. Do you have a date yet for banding?

Brandy,

Ive been banded for 4 1/2 months now, ive lost 73 pounds, as a former football player i was used to do a lot of excercise, after my surgery my doctor asked me to wait 2 months before excercise, i have been doing 1 hour of boxing and 1 hour of weight training every day without any problem, sometimes i have to take a Protein Shake when i feel tired but thats it, enjoy your lapband, it is the best decision you can make

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
