Orbera: Tips, tricks and survival guides for a newbie about to get procedure done!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I am a week away from my insertion date with mixed emotions. I'm excited, anxious and nervous all rolled into one.

I was wondering if you have had experience with the Orbera if you could give me any helpful tips pre/post insertion?

What should be on my shopping list? What should I throw away?!

I am looking forward to the support and the adventure ahead....

Thanks

Elle

Congratulations, good luck, God Speed on this journey. The first few weeks kind of stink. You are nervous. You second guess yourself. You don't poop for almost a week post surgery and you really start to freak out. Then things start to get better and a new normal begins. THEN the weight comes off. And you get to laugh about your pants LITERALLY falling off in the parking lot (invest in some nice undies).

Just keep walking and getting in the best shape you can going in. Plan on walking after you get home for about a month. Sip Water all the time the first week (I used a shot glass to start with just to regulate the amount).

I looked around for menu ideas for every week post op and tried them all and stocked those in my kitchen. All my kids junk food was moved to another cabinet away from my stuff.

Enjoy the journey, and if you ever start getting scared read some of this: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/

Thanks so much!! I was wondering if I can still have coffee? Should I be doing a diet pre-insertion?

Thanks

Ask your surgeon about coffee. You can have it again but I don't recall how long mine wanted me to wait.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
