The Bariatric Center of Excellence where I had my WLS Cathed all bariatric patients.

It was done in the OR,after the patient was "asleep", and was usually removed in the Recovery room.

If you've given birth in a hospital setting -- and I know not everyone here has -- I imagine the experience of nakedness in front of strangers will be similar.....when you're thinking about it weeks ahead of time being half naked in front of others sounds awful and embarrassing, but when you're in the thick of the action, you really could not care less.

I didn't even know about the cath. I'm the kind of girl who gets embarrassed easily (ego I guess) had a pre-op gastroscopy last week and was so embarrased with the way I burped so long and loud when the doctor pulled the camera out

Haha I was actually wondering about this too. I think I'm gonna try and sneak on some undies and see what they say. I might be unconscious so they might even take them from me? Who knows!

They know. Say u have your period. So u can wear disposable undies

I'm fairly certain lying to your doctor who will surely figure out that you're....LYING...isn't a good idea. :D

To the OP.

I am fairly certain your bariatric surgeon has seen more than his/her share of nekkid fatties before. :D

You definitely (HOPEFULLY!?!?!?!) won't be his/her first.

Unless your bits are particularly impressive, no one will remember them at all.

I went into the OR wearing only a paper gown. When I woke up I was wearing a cloth gown. Hmm...how did that happen?

After my foot surgery, my biggest goal was finally being able to get my foot wet and scrub that nasty orange stain off of my foot. Nasty crap...

When you wake up & see weird orange stuff on your skin, don't worry, it's not blood but the betadine. Hope you find this info helpful.

I went into the ER wearing a cloth gown and the mesh undies that the hospital gave me along with a pad (I am a heavy bleeder). I'm not sure if they only gave them to me because I was on my period or if they give them to everyone but I woke up wearing the same cloth gown and the same (annoyingly small) mesh undies.

yeah no undies.....in fact I woke up catheterized....it wasn't removed until the next morning.

Did it hurt when it was removed?

When my bf had his appendix removed and had to have a catheter inserted the nurse forgot to deflate the balloon inside his wee wee and tried to pull it out and boy did he scream and curse her out OUCH!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
