It's been one month today... And what a ride it's been! I feel pretty good. No pain, and I can eat most of the foods I'm allowed without discomfort (except ground beef makes my pouch sad) I was cleared for all foods this week :)

My surgeon prescribed a diuretic. She said I was extremely bloated. Since being on them, I've lost the 6 pounds I put on during my stall. But hopefully I won't gain it all back once I stop :/ My stall lasted 3 weeks... And it could still be going, but the Water pill is making the scale move, so only time will tell.

I was previously eating 600-700 calories a day, but my surgeon said that was way too low and told to eat 800-1000 calories. That's seems a lot to me. Anyone else eating that much?

Hi! I'm close to my first month too. I don't know what was your starting weight, but I think you eat too few. My diet plan is about 1200 cal and it is designed to avoid that the body learns how to survive with a very low amount of food and energy. The body has memory and if it got the idea that it has to survive with less, it does it. So keep attention if you want avoid a vicious circle in wich you have to eat progressively less to keep or less weight, is better to have a more complete alimentation plus some phisical activity, such just walking 30-40 minutes a day. My prevision is about a long term time, but i suggest you to ask now about this "body trick issue" to your dietist. .

I regretted my surgery the first 4 weeks because I was sooo sick from complications. But it's much better 6 weeks out.

Can you please talk about your recovery? Any crazy moments of regret? I'm a little over a week out and totally freaking out!

It's been good! But I won't lie, the first 2 weeks were rough. I was depressed and exhausted. Even walking to the bathroom was a lot of work. But the start of week 3, I turned a corner. I didn't have much pain, but getting your Fluid and Protein requirements in is hard. Make sure you find a Protein supplement that works for you. I spent a ton of money buying shakes and powders hoping to find one that worked. I didn't. Just the smell of the shakes started making me throw up. The powders were the same. I eventually bought an unflavored Protein powder and put it in my warm broth. I was able to get some down that way, but was always far from my 60 grams a day. Once you're able to eat soft foods, like gets easier. Also, 2 weeks after surgery I got Thrush. It took forever to clear up. So if your tongue looks white and weird, call your surgeon. But I'm 1 month post op and down 35 pounds, so that's a plus! Also, I'm sure you've read about it, but there is something called the "3 week stall". I stalled at 2 weeks and it last two weeks. The scale did not move, and it actually went up. My surgeon attributed that to Water, hormones, not eating enough calories, and healing. But it's very VERY frustrating not to see the scale move after undergoing surgery. So just keep that in mind.. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
