So I've noticed that I'm still very much (maybe even more so) attracted to the smell of bad foods. My fiance is a thin guy and can eat whatever/however much he wants but when I smell some of the things he eats, I WANT IT! I'm not at all hungry, but it's VERY tempting just to take a bite of his food. I'm not going to. My will power is still with me right now so fresh after surgery but how long will this last? Obviously the surgery fixes my stomach and not my head but I've heard others say that they just don't crave those things anymore. I don't want to CRAVE anything. What is it that changed that for you?

I have been wondering the same thing as a mother and wife who is still cooking them every meal I can't have but it doesn't stop the want the only thing I do is remind myself that I'm to soon in and I paid a lot for this surgery I don't want to fail it

I'm 12 weeks our and still crave the bad stuff too. For some people those cravings go away right after surgery. Not for us though.

I haven't really given into them either. As you keep not eating the yummy smelling but bad for you things, it gets easier.

A friend from the support group suggested taking in the smell and really enjoying the aroma, letting that be enough. Like smelling flowers. This helps me. Hope it helps you.

Best of everything :)

Props to ladies/gentlemen who have to cook for others. Thank goodness, most of my friends, including my boyfriend, don't have the eating disorder I had and I don't have kids. I don't crave things, and am very surprised how I don't crave "bad" food like I did before surgery. I'm glad my insurance made me prepare almost a year for the sleeve because the nutrition classes helped a lot and I got to practice eating better. Good luck and I hope the cravings pass. I think they are just head cravings. I am only almost two months out and still get so full after a few bites of Protein. I sometimes don't even feel like eating even though I know I have to.

Good things come to good people.

Im not sure if Im really craving certain foods, though I pretty much want to eat everything right now as I am in the post-op liquid phase. However, I find that I enjoy smelling foods such as the chicken apple sausage my husband fries up every morning.

I am craving for potatoes.. Anything potatoey would do about right now..

English is my 6th language so forgive me if my sentences don't make any sense at times!

Actually, come to think of it, I have been craving potatoes ever since the surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
