I'm wondering if my sleeve is small enough?

New question? Should I change my profile name to "the crazy pizza lady" ?

Naaaa, you are fine. ;-)
Unless she changes it to, "The Crazy pizza Lady Who Uses A Straw". That would do it . ;)
Can we change it to "crazy lady who eats pizza and drinks SODA with a straw" .... now that would be interesting!! Hahahhaha i can hear the WLS gods gasping in horror from here lol

Ok, so the consensus seems to be "That crazy lady who eats pizza and drinks beer with a straw when she's smoking pot" would be ok? Just checking.

I think it's reasonable to say that the do's and don'ts after WLS are not one size fits all.

Not trying to cause an uproar, just saying that everyone is different.

For example:

Some of us may drink through a straw, smoke weed, drink some alcohol, and eat popcorn with no problems at all.

Personally I have, and continue to, do all of these things and have taken this same approach since day 1. Ok ok it was probably 3 weeks before I ate popcorn and drank any alcohol but not once did any of these things cause a problem.

You are not certain to regain weight, slip into problematic addictive behaviors, stretch or tear your sleeve, or become an out-of-control lunatic by following the rules that are reasonable for you personally.

It could be that some people will experience some of these problems by not following the generally accepted rules of post op life. It also could be that some people are able to live a less restrictive lifestyle and still be successful.

Just sayin.

Yes every plan is very different. And honestly when ai was in my soft food stage I had some pizza...but only the cheese. Having said that, would bet a large amount of money that no plan ever has said that pizza is ok less than two weeks aftef surgery

@@sharonintx

Absolutely, everyone makes their personal choices on their lifestyle... each to their own.... someone elses choices will in no way affect me.... and if one chooses to make bad choices the only person affected is that person.

Each person needs to fit wls into their lifestyle. . What works for one, may not work for another.

We are joking about the "hot topics" that always cause debate in this forum, not necessarily the issues themselves ☺

@, @@sharonintx I am waaaay to libertarian to ever judge anyone. But if someone asks "is it ok to be drinking alcohol and eating popcorn three weeks post op" or "is it a good idea" I'd say no. But it's your body. No one has been appointed the food police, and if we did, we make it @@Dub, so we could get some ribs.

I don't think the size of your sleeve is the issue here. You need to figure out why you would decide to go off plan so soon after surgery. I would suggest some counseling to help you establish a healthier relationship with food

I would suggest reading the entire thread before posting ;)

A question like this is most commonly going to be responded with things like: "OMG YOU ATE pizza AT 12 DAYS WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO HURT YOURSELF AND NOT FOLLOWING THE SURGEONS GUIDELINES".

I think that answer is overdone on questions like this, and does not answer the initial question the poster asked. The question was not "Did I break my surgeon's rules?" or "Should I be eating pizza at 12 days post op?" The question the poster asked was "Is my sleeve small enough".

Everyone knows eating pizza 12 days post op probably is not a good idea - but as I have mentioned over and over again on this website, every one of us has a food addiction or we wouldn't need surgery. She did not eat the pizza to personally offend those of you who followed every rule down to the very last crumb, nor did she eat the pizza with intent to hurt herself.

My response to the initial question is to not focus on how much you CAN eat and weigh out what you should be eating. Get a good food scale, and probably try making sure what you're eating is about 4 ounces. I always thought I could eat more than others with my sleeve, but my restriction has been about the same since I was a month out. I am 5 months out right now, and about a month ago I tried a slice of pizza. I ate everything but the crust, and the toppings off of another. I was FULL.

Think of it this way, though - before surgery you probably could have eaten 5 slices or more (at least I know I could have). One slice is not much. Just be careful with introducing carbs and foods like that into your diet so early. They say carbs are "slider foods" and pizza would probably be easier to eat than something like grilled chicken which is Protein dense.

Finally somebody that answered the question! Thanks.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
