When you can take pills again?

Recommended Posts

the only thing I was having to take as a chewable was my multi. I had chewable Calcium because I thought I would have to - so I used it anyway - but everything else I was able to take right away. I don't know what the rule was on the multi because I had 90 of those things, they were high dollar so I used them all up before I went back on my regular multi.

I was swallowing pills after I passed my swallow test, so within 24 hours.

I was told I could take any pills that were smaller than and M&M starting right after surgery. However, my doctor had me opening capsules for the first month and mixing with applesauce or yogurt (for example, my Prilosec and gallstone preventative, Ursodiol).

I do chewable multi Vitamin, Calcium and sublingual B12. Other than that I'm now swallowing all pills at almost 6 wks post op.

I was cleared to take pills as soon as I could sit up after surgery, as long as the pills were small enough to fit through a standard wedding ring. Other pills had to be either cut in half with a pill cutter (if appropriate and cleared via a pharmacist to cut the pills, not all pills can be safely cut, or crushed, or whatever) or replaced with a liquid medication, for 8 weeks. After that, cleared to swallow any pill.

Haven't had surgery yet but surgeon said to take pills next day and to not crush them. He seemed confident I will be able to.

I just had my surgery 3 days ago. I was allowed to take pills the next day. The doctor said that a capsule or small pill will be fine and I have taken then with no problems...about the size of a liquid Advil.

I have immunosuppressants to take so I literally had to take horse pills a few hours after surgery. Made me nauseous but it was doable.

Well, I am jealous. I can't take them for at least six weeks and it might be 3 months. I hate it. I take several bp meds and just trying to get through all the pills and Vitamins is daunting.

They gave me pills right after I woke up from surgery. I do not swallow pills whole so I wish they did not but they did!

Right away - the day after surgery I was cleared to take all my meds including capsules and large pills.. but since I have meds for mental health (which is a cocktail of three) plus my BC plus the pain meds I felt like I had had a full meal once I got all of them down but I was determined not to need liquids lol

Wow...

So many different instructions. I'm 6 weeks post op and still required to crush pills. It has been very intrusive because some of my medications are time released and crushing them negates that benefit. So I had to switch to an immediate release taking throughout the day. What a pain in my shrinking ass!

Hoping at 2 month follow up I'll be cleared to swallow pills whole again.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
