Successful weight loss after 6 months? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

6 months out and stalled for 6 weeks, and no where NEAR goal.

Most people in my support group said they were only able to lose a very little amount of weight after this point, which has me panicking a bit, because at this point, I barely look different.

For all of you lovely people that are further out-- did any of you have success continuing to lose a significant amount of weight pass 6 months or am I totally screwed over here? If you have, what was your secret?

Help a desperate sleever out :)

There isn't anything magic about six months that would keep you from being able to lose weight, especially if you are following your program.

I would need to see details before even beginning to hazard a guess about why you may be experiencing a stall right now.

Is this a weight you have maintained at in the past?

Are you tracking your food?

Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid a day?

What is your Protein target?

Are you getting in at least that much Protein every day?

Are you avoiding added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried food?

Are you eating enough good carbs (vegetables, fruits, and whole grains)?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed?

Are you exercising?

Have you talked to your NUT about your concerns? What did he or she suggest?

I had a lengthy stall at 6 months out, and then began to lose weight again after increasing both my calories (too low can slow down your metabolism) and my exercise.

9 months out, still losing. I have lost 35lbs in the last 3 months. Only 8lbs to ultimate goal.

I did recently have two weeks of no change. I went back to liquids for a few days (Protein shakes, high Protein Soups - I didn't limit calories) and dropped 5lbs. My restriction also improved quite a bit.

You may want to consider doing the 5 day pouch reset to kick you off again?

I have also used jogging to move me out of a slump. I find long distance running rather than short/fast runs helps me drop the lbs, as long as you don't eat all of the calories back

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
