Slight gain - will insurance deny?

Recommended Posts

I had my last nutrition/weight appointment before being submitted to insurance for approval. During the two weeks before my appointment, I passed a kidney stone and developed a UTI that went to my kidney so I was on a lot of antibiotics and pain killers - so I was eating crackers and things to settle my nausea and I was retaining a lot of the Water I was drinking to pass the stone and clear the infection plus constipated from the pain medicines. I gained about 5 pounds between appointments. The dietician is going to submit me to insurance and explain my gain - so my question is, has anyone experienced a slight gain and been approved by insurance? I have BC/BS.

Thanks!

I only lost, but did your insurance require you to lose a certain amount? Did the dietician seem confident? If you get denied, you can always lose the weight and appeal.

I would guess as long as it didn't say "no net gain" you should be fine. Like @@RNY KAT says...appeal it if it's denied. Keep us posted!

@@bridgetsband I started my weigh-ins at 363 and ended my last weigh-in at 372. I have Humana PPO insurance, and I got approved this week! I think they take each case and review the weigh-ins against the medical notes from your bariatric doctor. So basically case-by-case basis. But good luck with your Band journey! :D

Alex Benton,

Congrats on being approved! I was approved also and go for preop labs today! I found out that my insurance automatically approves anyone who is seeking surgery at a "Center of Excellence" - they approved they request in 24 hours! Surgery is set for July 29th. Keep me posted on how you do; it sounds like we will be going through them at the same time :)

Hi Alex,

My surgery went well. It was July 29. I had a quick recovery. I did have a brutal Migraine the week after the procedure...not sure if that was random or related to the recovery. What Protein drinks are you drinking? During my second week, I sort of stopped craving food like I had been. I loved premiere Protein. It kept me satisfied for hours! And broth was a lifesaver. Before I was doing preop, I couldn't believe people were satisfied on broth and Popsicles and protein but now that I'm on the other side, you can totally do it. I was very sore waking up from surgery...but, I only needed the pain meds for 3 days. Any questions you have, feel free to ask :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
