Hey guys I'm Courtney I'm 22 years old and I've been big my whole life. I have tried losing weight so many times and different ways. So I have been doing my homework about the bypass and the sleeve and I think I'm gonna go with the sleeve but I still have to go to the seminar which is July 21 it's for middlesex hospital in Connecticut! Then after that I'll make an appointment to see the surgeon for the first time ever. I'm really nervous for all of this. Could anyone give me some insight on what to except? Or what I have coming to me in the next couple of months like pre op testing? And pre op diets I heard that it's a 6month wait before even getting a approved because I have to lose weight before? Anyone info would help thank you all :)

many things depend on your insurance and your surgeon's requrements. For me I had a whole bunch of testing...bloodwork, ekg, sleep study, nutritionist, psychologis, and a couple others.

I echo what @@Sophie74656 said - it's going to depend on your insurance. I got super lucky and had very few requirements.

I'll tell you what helped me the most - YouTube! There are so many folks who have gone through this journey and have documented their experiences on YouTube. Go search for weight loss surgery or gastric sleeve and you'll find tons of information. I also searched for blogs to read, and of course, joined this forum. Information is your friend, and it will help you understand what to expect and keep some of those nerves at bay.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
