Sipping vs. drinking slowly

Recommended Posts

The routine given me to follow after surgery was to drink 2oz. of Protein at the top of the hour and 1 oz. of water/Power pro Zero at 15, 30, and 45 minutes past the hour. I thought this was all my new stomach could handle.

When i got up this morning I prepared a 20 oz. Power pro Zero with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored (amounting to 21 grams of Protein. I comfortably drank this in just over 30 minutes. I had the sleeve two days ago. Hospital just called to check on me and when I told her what I did she said to go back to the regimen of only two oz. protein followed by 3 1oz. servings of liquid every hour.

Any of you following this routine and how important is this routine to follow. My life is very busy and trying to drink 2,1,1,1oz. over an hour is just not going to work for me. I was actually thirsty this morning and the liquid Protein Drink was actually very satisfying.

Thanks

What weird advice!

All that matters is that we are fully hydrated -- not how slowly we drink or sip.

I think you're doing great. :)

Just talked to my NUT and will share what he said. Mixing the Protein with a thin liquid will let it go through your stomach much faster and the downside is the stomach does not get to spend much time getting the food ready for the small intestine. He prefers mixing the Protein with Skim or 1% milk if you can tolerate milk ,which I can. The thicker shake will give the stomach more time to prepare the protein food to flow into the small intestine.

This makes since to me because I just prepared a Protein Shake with 1% milk and after 2 or 3 ounces I was feeling fullness.

So I am going to get my protein in with milk and get my other Fluid only drinks Crystal Light and Poweraid. Room temperature Water does not taste good to me and I am staying away from hot/cold liquids.

I'm two days out. My instructions were the 2oz. of Protein using 1% milk and 4-6 oz. of water/liquid each hour. Doing that all day should get me to my daily goal of 64 oz. of Water and 32 oz. of protein. They didn't specify by the minute when to drink, as long as you are getting it in.

Just got woke up and had a two oz. serving of Celebrate Royal Choclate mixed with 1% milk. After my two oz. portion I was comfortable. I think mixing Protein with 1% milk is for me the correct way to get my Protein. I measured out 4 two oz. portions which will give me 34 g. of protein over the next four hours.

Waited awhile and now sipping Poweraid Zero.

I made a mistake yesterday when I mixed the protein with Poweraid Zero which allowed me to drink this thin mixture way to fast.

Life is good!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
