I only have a 5 day preop diet so it doesn't start until Saturday. My surgeon wants me to lose 4 more lbs by surgery day of July 7th!

I am just so excited to be in the sun, by the pool and the ocean without work bothering me that I don't even care that I can't eat or drink.

@@higher, we decided not to go to the ocean this year and my surgery is the 12th. My preop is 2 weeks, idk some people bigger than me don't have to do one that long n obviously smaller probably not either. Guess it's what the surgeon thinks, as long as he can do it im fine :-) so where are you all at? What ocean?

@@betterme38 down on the Gold Coast of Florida, Palm Beach.

I KNOW I have a fatty liver from the ultrasound so I really want it to shrink as much as possible. Honestly I should have been trying to lose weight harder over the last 8 months or so. Regretting that. So even though I just have a 5 day preop diet I've been on a mostly liquid super low carb diet for the past two weeks or so anyway.

The best way to look at it is a super head start I guess!

Where is your trip?

I will be on vacation during my liquid diet. I actually start my diet 1 day before we leave for vacation. It will be hard well worth it though.

Was wondering if anyone else had something special happening during their liquid diet? I wanna still go with my family to eat, just order Soup or take my own shake. How do/did you all do, plus my husband likes the all you can eat places lol.

☆Jeni☆

The first week I start my Pre-op diet I'll be on vacation as well. Imma push through somehow someway. Stay strong

Look at the resturants there, then find which ones have an online menu.

Try to find some that have broth type Soups.

When I was having surgery my best friend flew in to be with me and I wanted to take her some place nice. We went to a French restaurant and I had the french onion Soup and just had the broth. It was hard because it was my last day and I was basically running on air, but I managed to just have the broth on the soup.

Even at all you can eat place, as long as it isn't a couple days before surgery if you have a salad with just greens, no dressing, just put salt and pepper on it, you should be fine. You just want to make sure you have zero carbs so your liver shrinks.

I have my best friends birthday -going out to the city 10 days before. And then my hubbys birthday the night before. All happening during my 2 week liquid diet. For me those are important events I'd normally have food be a must have or important part of the day.

Since I know my priority is my health right now I'm taking precautions. I'm actually more nervous about the friends birthday outing since she doesn't know I'm having surgery. But I plan to bring a bottle with a premix Protein drink in my purse and sip on that and get a light Soup and salad no dressing or extras and just slowly pick at that. I will avoid alcohol though since that's a big no no for my liver.

God I hope my willpower is as brave as my words.

I'll be on an all liquid pre-op diet during vacation as well. It's at a peaceful resort and for some reason I think it will be easier to avoid temptation there as opposed to near all my old go-tos at home. But we'll see!

When is your trip?

Mine is the first week of July. I actually fly home the night before surgery...land at 10:30 pm and have to be at the hospital at 6:30 am the next day.

You can do this!!

I recently returned from a 2 1/2 week vacation, most of it traveling and eating out, and I returned home without gaining any weight. I'm not in the liquid phase any longer, but I do still supplement my meals with Protein shakes in order to get the minimal grams of Protein each day (100g). My preferred Protein powder is unjury for numerous reasons. I buy it directly from @@UNJURY to save $$. The dietitians at Unjury are always available to talk with you if you have any questions or concerns in the event you're unable to reach your practice dietitian.

My suggestions for traveling:

Take premeasured Protein Powder with you or a scale so you can accurately measure the powder rather than depending on scoop size. Powder can easily compact or be too loose and you won't get an accurate serving size. Don't wait until you're in the restaurant to mix your shake. Premix your Protein Shakes and ask for a glass of ice to pour it over. Have it ready to drink and I think you will avoid some strong temptations. Unjury protein powder shakes can be made at least 24 hours ahead of when you plan to drink the shake, which I do often because I think they taste better when the shake has had time to "bloom" so to speak. Also, Unjury has a chicken Soup protein powder that is quite good, but you have to be careful about Water temperature so it helps to have a simple thermometer on hand. If the Water is too hot, the whey will clump. It doesn’t change the taste, just the texture which can be weird. I have found that having a non-sweet protein Meal Replacement helped me get through the restaurant meals and such.

Most of my protein beverages are just shaken up; I do not use a blender or make them frozen for simplicity and time sake.

Get creative with your drink flavors. Some of my favorite flavor combinations are:

  1. vanilla Protein Powder, SF Sunrise Orange drink (it’s like an orange Dreamsicle)
  2. ½ serving vanilla PP, ½ serving chocolate Splendor PP ,4 oz. brewed coffee, chilled, 4 oz. skim milk
  3. Chocolate Splendor PP, 8 oz. skim milk, 1 or 2 servings PB2
  4. ½ serving Vanilla PP, ½ serving chocolate Splendor, 8 oz. skim milk
  5. Chicken PP with less than a serving of chicken bouillon mixed with 8-10 oz. water at 140 degs.

Have a safe, happy, and successful vacation!!

Great Tips!!!!! Thank you

Laughing at how optimistic I was here. Yes, I easily avoided all the usual temptations near home like pizza, chips, ice cream, takeout. But I cheated on my liquid diet almost every day with small servings of raw or fresh grilled fish for dinner and one night that fish came with a side of baby artichokes. Today is the last day before surgery and I'll stick to all liquids but ugh! I suck. Haha.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
