I add nutritional yeast to anything and everything. It adds Protein (app. 8gr/2 TBLsp) to everything. In Soups it tastes like savory croutons. On meat, fish, fowl, it has a cheesy taste.

It's a great way to boost the Protein count of whatever you're eating.

Give it a try. "you'll like it". :)

Good luck and let us know how you're doing along your journey.

Prayer going up for you, Friend.

I bought some and can't quite figure out how to use it! You just sprinkle it on top of everything?

that's about it. I just sprinkle onto my green salads. I sprinkle it onto veggies that I am going to roast, and I mix it into hot Soups. I really like the cheesy/bready tastes it gives--plus the extra protein. YUM

Cook it on the fish like bread crumbs? Or sprinkle on after cooking?

You can sprinkle it like parmesan cheese, use it as a bread crumb or in sauces (gives a nutty cheesy flavour).

I don't use it as a coating. I think it would make your entrée too "rich". Just sprinkle it on your hot entrée like grated cheese.

Enjoy!

Lots of questions:

Is there a best "nutritional yeast"? Different kinds? Best place to buy? Difference between flakes and ground? How much should you have?

Can the yeast be put in a shaker and applied like salt/pepper?

Thanks, I want to have this product on hand when I start my soft foods next week.

@migok,

I think your question has the answer in it…you’re only 16 days post-op! You are doing really well, so congratulations! Good job sticking to the small amounts and worrying about your Protein intake.

I think very few (if any) sleeve patients can get their Protein in this quickly after surgery using only solid foods if they are following the diet rules and their sleeve is working right. I don’t know how your nutritionist expects you to get your protein in without shakes – have you asked?

I know long-term, eventually, maybe after months or even a year down the road, you shouldn’t be having liquid calories like Protein Shakes, but for now, I can’t see how you would avoid them. Adding more meals/snacks could help, too, if you have the room for it, but you may just need to add two 20 or 30-gram shakes to your day for now. 16 days post-op is still really, really early – many patients aren’t even eating the foods you mentioned yet; they’re still on pureed foods.

Good luck!

@@mlgok - I used to use genpro, but they changed the formulation, and it doesn't blend as well as it used to. I now use PipingRock.com's version. Dissolves well in everything and is tasteless except in plain Water, does well in coffee. But in your case, think about adding it in yogurt. I just looked back at my food diary and week 3 I was at 50-60g per day. I didn't really push up to 100+ per day until 2 months later. That is when I was increasing exercise and with new muscle, I noticed hair loss which increased my interest in increasing Protein.

Sorry for my late response.

I like the "flaked" variety. It seems "heartier".

I buy my Nutritional Yeast at my neighborhood Health food Store.--out of a bulk barrel. It is sold on Amazon and Walmart, but it costs more and I think it's over refined when bought at a retail store.

I keep mine in a grated cheese shaker. No need to keep it in the fridge.

A serving is 2TBLS-----7-8gr protein/40-45cal

There's also books explaining the benefits of Nutritional Yeast and recipes sold on Amazon.

Good luck. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Prayers going up.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
