While I thought I had everything to together, I was hit with some forms to sign at my pre-op labs yesterday and one of those forms was consenting to robotic surgery....as in a robot performing my surgery.

This doesn't sit me with me well. I mean, are most of them done this way now?

a friend of mine is having a robotic sleeve and hysterectomy done next month at the same time. I know a great number of ladies who have had a robotic hysterectomy. It is supposedly an easier surgery and easier recovery. There are real people guiding things. If you are uncomfortable with it then I would discuss with your team, but I've only seen very positive outcomes as examples.

In the short time that I've researched this, it does appear to be that way, a quicker recovery with a little less pain...

When they are referring to robotic surgery, the surgeon is at a station with controls etc. and operates the robot....it is not an automated procedure. This is actually preferred as the machine has no "shake" or other problems associated with the human hand.

My sleeve was done robotically and I have not had one issue post op. My daughter is a surg tech and explained it to me as the best and least invasive way to go.

My surgeon said this is going to be the new, new thing like laparoscopic is to open surgery. Crazy, right?

I work for the VA and some of the medical centers are doing the robotic surgery. I've heard it's extremely precise and non invasive. There is also I doctor right there, so its not like no one is there in case of an emergency!

It is being performed by a surgeon working with a surgical piece of machinery ("robot'); it is not an automated procedure.

have a discussion with your surgeon....I'm sure he'll be happy to give you all the details. The surgeon is right there operating the robot like other's have said. I believe this is a better way to perform the surgery.....not sure if it will be true for you but a lady in a support group I'm in had her surgery performed robotically and had only one incision site rather than the normal 4 to 6......Although my surgery went fine and I had no complications, if I had been given the option I would have chose robot. Good luck!!!

Thanks, I am aware that the "robots" are being controlled by the Surgeons, I just wasn't sure of the current success rate of it.

I have heard the same, easier recovery.

There's still a doctor in there controlling everything, you're not in there all alone with a robot and a nurse. ;-)

DaVinci (the robot's name) did a wonderful job with my sleeve. Because of my high starting weight, my liver was larger than normal. Your liver needs to be moved aside (SUPER carefully) to get at your stomach. No problems. Three 3/4" incisions. One night in the hospital. Walking the ward the next morning. (I actually got out of bed to pee, and afterwards just kept walking around!). Now after losing 226 lbs. they are going to repair a hernia I have had for FAR too long...wait for it...with a robot.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
