Does anyone have a good pre op to do list? I'm starting to worry I'm going to forget something critical. I'm going 11/7. Started my two week pre op diet today.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My date is July 7 but I'm out of town July 2-6, flying back the night before surgery so I'm working on this list. Have to have everything ready for the hospital and immediately postop before I leave on the 2nd.

Here's what I have so far:

- make sure I have at least one of all of the allowed post op liquid options stocked and reachable (broth, tea, Protein Powder all come down from the high shelves. Popsicles in the freezer and ready made drinks in the fridge)

-fill my prescriptions before I leave town

- clean bed sheets to come home to (always the last thing I do before traveling anyway)

- place heating pad by the bed in case I need it

- braid my clean hair the night before surgery (so I don't have to worry about it!)

- make sure I have antibacterial soap on hand (hibiclens)

- fill all the ice cube trays

- clear my schedule for the days immediately following surgery

- stock up on some library books and fresh reads for when I'm around the house (looking forward to this!)

- set out some comfy, easy to wear breezy clothes for around the house

- clean the house (in case I'm too tired after)

- pack for the hospital (phone charger, gas x strips, eyeglass case, face cream, headphones)

That's all I have so far. I'm recovering alone so this list may look strange to anyone who has help!

Should you have Liquid Tylenol on hand maybe- so you don't have to go out and get any? (Because I am hoping you won't need the heavy-duty prescription drugs for post-op pain!)

Great idea. I'll add to my list. Thank you! I'm thinking some kind of gentle laxative as well. Based on reading the forums!

Yup, me too. I'm actually going to do stir-in Fiber (psyllium) while I do my 2 week liquid-only pre-op diet and then have liquid (Miralax) on hand for post surgery. I'm skipping the gas-x, because that works on gas within your digestive system and the post-op gas is in your abdominal space (to inflate it and lift your skin/muscle away from your organs). There's really no way for the gas-x and the "gas" to interact; they are in 2 completely different regions. HOWEVER... I bought my favorite lip-balm and some Biotene dry mouth spray for the hospital, as I'll be 24 hours with nothing by mouth, not even sips of Water .

July 21, 2016 for me

I just got my date, I'm July 21st too!

That's awesome!

I have cancelled my surgery. Since I have a lower BMI, my Holistic doctor has persuaded me to try the HCG Protocol first as an alternative to surgery.

I will starting Phase 1 in one and a half weeks.

Good luck!!

@@HOPEFULL7 - I did HCG a few times a few years ago. I did lose weight very quickly. I think just as fast as someone who had bariatric surgery. I lost about 20+ pounds per month. I tried to eat healthy after stopping it, but I think the weight came back faster than with any other diet. I gained weight as fast as I lost it. :-( Then the next year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I've always wondered if the HCG played a role in that. (When you google, you will find some links.) I don't want to shoot your plan down. We always need support in weight loss. I'm here now, just approved for surgery after the 6 month supervised diet, etc and my sleeve date was confirmed today as 7/27. Yay! I feel like this tool will help me make this a permanent weight loss this time around.

I posted this on another July sleeve thread, but this one seems to be much more active, so I hope you don't mind me posting it here as well.

Hi everyone. I'd like to join the club. :-) I just got my surgery date of July 27th! One month to go! I wondered if there were any other July sleevers who might want to be a sleeve buddy. I thought having some things in common might make our connection better.

So here is a little info about me:

I'm 42. I've yo yo dieted all my life. I believe I had some non specified eating disorders in the past.

My BMI is 40. I like being active and keep getting tastes of it with the yo yo dieting, only to eventually end up back in this prison of a body again. I'm happily married with 3 sons. I have been doing a lot of healing work since my breast cancer in 2013 and have improved so many areas of my life, but this weight tethering me down is something I need to fix. I'm ready! I live in NY and am having surgery in Sayre, PA on July 27. I'm scared of the negativity and judgment I'll receive from some people, so have only told my husband and best friend about the surgery so far. I would love to keep it private forever, but just don't know if that's possible. I'd love to chat with someone else who also struggles with that part of it.

I'm really excited for this new chapter of my life!!

@@higher Does your surgeon know you are flying in the night before? You may want to tell them in case they want you to take blood thinners pre-op. Hopefully your flight is on time!

Hi @@KristenLe - you brought up this great point in a previous post of mine. I did tell the nurse at my preoperative testing and she said it would be fine but recommended I double check with my surgeon. I'll ask him about it when I see him Wednesday. Appreciate the reminders! And boy I hope my flight is on time too.

July 5th here too!! Do any others have a pre-op liquid diet? If so, mine is 14 days I'm on day 6.

Hang in there! I've done the liquid pre-op diet for 14 days. It's not fun, but it's manageable. Remember that you can probably have sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles, and healthy choice/low fat cream Soups in addition to the Protein Shakes. You can do it!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
