I also have a 2 year old daughter. Surgery is Aug 1. How many days did your parents keep her? Trying to assess how much help I'm going to need.

I kept her at my parents a full week, I'm glad I did too because she had an awesome time and it gave me some time to recover. Everyday gets easier, she's been home since Sunday, I'm going to admit, I've had to pick her up a few times, but we bought a cute little step stool, so she can climb on her changing table and get up to wash her hands on her own. Otherwise I sit on the floor to help her get dressed, the hardest part is her hitting the incisions, luckily they don't really hurt anymore, and she is more aware of them now, she asks every morning if I still have my booboo's and lifts up my shirt..lol. But I think it would have been really hard the first few days home from the hospital. She is so dependant and attached to me, she wants mommy to help her with everything, definitely glad I had that extra time to heal.

Had my sleeve surgery this morning and wasn't nervous at all surprisingly. Expect a bit of discomfort right after surgery, but I feel better already. I am experiencing gerd for the first time and it's causing my throat to burn. Quite a bit of nausea and a sensation that I need to burp but can't. They won't let me do cough drops or gas x strips. The nurses have been downright terrible. Nobody gave me any pain meds until three hours after surgery and nurses are horrible. I can have ice chips and I Had to wait over an hour for those. Called nurse and waited 35 minutes to try and pee and ended up having to disconnect my wires myself and had to bend to reconnect everything myself. I'm giving this hospital a horrible survey review

I also had surgery this afternoon. I was a ball of nerves, but surgery went well. Was in serious pain the first hour post op but since then it really hasn't been bad at all. I've been able to drink about 10oz of Water and a small bottle of Isopure which has shocked me. Getting my bladder to relax was a project, but I was determined as I did NOT want a catheter. Now if only I could get some freaking sleep in this place.

First day of my "new" life!!!!

So sorry to hear the nurses were so dissapointing. I had surg Tues morn n couldnt have anything till after 8am wed when dye test showed no leaks. Couldnt even use the biotene spray ????. The no liquids thing was fine except for the horrible dry mouth i had. Could only use those sponge swabs.

However, my nurses were great and all in all it was a good experience. Hope the rest of your recovery goes well!

Congrats! Getting sleep is definately a challenge! During the discharge instructions the nurse was telling me - ok, u need to get x oz in. It will divide up to this many hours per day to accomplish that. If you take a nap, you'll have to stay up till x that night to complete liquids....

That really hit home! Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted!

Just had the sleeve yesterday. I survived without any problems. Pain level is tolerable. I could go home today but have to pass gas and drink the amount if required Fluid. Perhaps tomorrow. So glad to have this part of my journey over. I am walking lots around the hospital halls. It makes me feel better. Good luck all. No pokemon in the halls that I can find! LOL

I got sleeved!! 7am EST, 8 hours ago. This hospital is super great! They have been quick with pain meds and stuff for nausea. I have been walking twice and to the potty 3 times. Thank you so much BP for all the advice, it has been so helpful.

That is terrible! I'm sorry they weren't very helpful! How is it now? Are you in your own room yet ? Was that in the recovery room or did you have bad service in your room ?

PRE SURGERY PACKING LIST - DIDNT NEED MOST OF IT. SCROLL DOWN FOR WHAT I REALLY USED

Here's a packing list I've started, although I've heard alot of peeps say to pack next to nothing. Like, am I REALLY gonna want to put makeup on?

*Gas X strips (although my surgeon said dont, the nurses will be mad if you self medicate)

*toothpaste

*toothbrush

*biotene spray

*listerene strips

*those little disposable toothbrushes with paste on (colgate maybe?)

*hair ties

*Makeup?

*Shampoo

*Conditioner

*Body wash

*Magazines

(Some said we wouldnt be able to focus on a book on pain meds)

*Ipad/charger

*Cell/charger

*Ear buds

(If u dont have a long charger cord bring extension cord)

*Eye mask

*Ear plugs

*Chapstick

*Lotion

*Pads

*Brush

*Driver's license

*Insurance card

*Glasses

*Cpap

*Slippers

*Nightgown?

*Robe?

*Pillow (for ride home)

*Baby spoons

*Go home comfy outfit

*Undies

*Flip flops

*Heating pad?

*Medications (bariatric folder says to bring)

*Bariatric folder

ACTUALLY USED FROM LIST

Ok, so only needed/used a couple things on that list

*Ipad/charger (my family used, I didnt)

*Cell/charger

*Lip balm

*Drivers license

*Insurance card

*Glasses

*Cpap

*Heating pad - I used the heck out of hospital supplied heating pad. They wouldnt let me use mine, had to use theirs. That was what really got me to a number 4 on pain scale. Before that I was a 7. Definately ask for one as soon as in room.

*Outfit to go home in - i brought a maxi dress, panties and padded bra tank for under. Couldnt stand the pressure of the tank under it, had to leave hospital bra-less.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
