What part of Boston are you located? I was sleeved 9/25/15 at BMC & have been looking to connect with people lately. I'm in metro west & it doesn't look like there are support groups out this way. I think it'd be great to meet others & swap stories & learn from others.

@@edw73 I live in Walpole - I am fairly new so I am not aware yet of any Boston based support groups etc - maybe some members will shine a light on this topic

I was sleeved 7/18 at newton wellsley, they have free support groups several times a month, it's listed on their website. I am 99% sure anyone can attend, you don't have to have had your surgery there.

Commenting to follow the thread; my surgery was 8/8 at Winchester Hospital. I live north of the city but work in Boston - I don't know anyone "in real life" who has had weight loss surgery. I have a great FB and instagram support system but really don't like my surgeon's monthly support group so I don't go often. A lot of people who had the surgery years ago and come every month to tell everyone they know better, you know? I'd love to get together with people who are closer to the start of their journey sometime - I think we face different challenges than people who've been maintaining for years.

I am a " closet sleeve" only my husband 2 daughters and 2 friends that both had surgery at the same time know. Lowell general, has monthly support meetings , but truthfully I do not get much out of them. I am on 2 closed ( one is secret) face book pages. I find both very helpful.

I am 1 year 1 month out.

Maybe we could start with a closed or secret Facebook page of mass- sleeved or lap and or what ever bariatric people? ( I say closed or secret) because even though I am just over 1 year out. I am not out. Only my husband kids and I friend that also had surgery know! Would love to meet up and maybe even find a group to do monthly activities like hike or what ever with.

Ok just my 2 cents even though I posted before lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
