Hi all! I got sleeved on 5/31 and I was wondering if any one would be willing to be a mentor. I'm doing pretty well pain wise, but I have this feeling that I'm not going to like the new me. I know it was something that I needed to do in order to be healthier, but my head hunger is getting in the way. All I want right now is a burger and it kills me to know I can't have one. I just don't want to worry about what I can and cannot eat for the rest of my life. Sorry, just needed to vent.

you're going to get through this! the first couple of weeks after surgery are the hardest I think.

I am 3 1/3 months out and now I have a burger (without bun) if I want one. ok. so I can only eat half of it - but that's all I want anyway. You will have other things you want and there are good choices as alternatives.

your profile says lap-band - but you had the sleeve? might need to change that in your settings if you can because it's a little confusing.

I agree with christinamo7. The first two weeks seem difficult because you DO have to worry about what you put into your system. Trust me when I tell you, I was a HUGE binger all my life. I could sometimes eat over 10,000 (yes, that's 10 THOUSAND) calories in a day sometimes. During my early 40's I decided to curb that though, and tried eating better for my health. Incidentally, I believe I am the main reason I developed type 2 diabetes, knowing it ran in my family (what?? Nobody runs in my family, badumbump). I stopped the major overeating, and went to just overeating normally, lol. I was 277 at surgery and that was almost five weeks ago. I was 255 at my one week postop. I don't know what /if I've lost more (I feel like it) but I don't care. I know I'm on the right track and I CAN'T overeat or I will vomit. I HAVE eaten one or twice to the point of "too full" and couldn't stand the feeling but it's NO WHERE near what I used to eat. Not to mention, I don't eat sweets, fried, bread, Pasta, etc and frankly, I don't want any of that yet! The second week postop I craved weird things like watermelon (still haven't had) and Brussel sprouts. I'm a weirdo. Anyhoo, my point of this is to say, you won't be thinking of what to eat as much as you do the first few weeks. You will just make sure to not your Protein so you aren't tired and remember at any meal time, nutrients (protein) first! This is a tool. Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
