Water, why the heck can't I drink you?!

Recommended Posts

3 months post op here and I have had problems drinking Water. As soon as I drink regular non flavored water I get immediately nauseated! I can drink teas and sugar free sports drinks fine, but I've been trying so hard to beef up my water intake just to constantly be nauseated by it. Does anyone else have/had this problem?

Try fresh mint added to it, help with nausea

Yep. Can't drink regular Water. I need to add a flavor to it.
Any kind, but plain water is extremely difficult for me, or I have to drink it very slowly.

I am two years post op and can still only tolerate tiny amounts of plain Water before the nausea hits. I don't really like the crystal lite type drops. I drink propel water. I can tolerate some fruit infused water, but not lots. Hot herbal tea goes down fine.

I think most if not all of us have this problem. I am 9 months out and my plain Water intake is starting to increase but I have been a "vitamin water zero" and "true lemon" junkie for quite awhile now;-)

18 months out here. Same issues with plain Water, although I do find that ice Water is more difficult for me than just cold water (from the fridge) or room temp. Also, first thing in the morning is always hardest. I literally cannot drink it in the morning without something added. I keep a bottle of reduced sugar grape juice in the fridge (13 carbs for 8 oz, I think) and I sometimes add a splash (maybe 1 oz) of that to my first glass or two in the mornings, just to keep the nausea at bay. Once I get started drinking for the day, I can usually switch to plain cold or room temp (not iced) water and be fine. It's bizarre.

Also, infused water is fabulous. I do a fair bit of that, too - lemons and strawberries or limes and raspberries :)

Same here! My first sip of Water for the day always makes me gag. It's hard to get down. It gets easier as the day goes on for me, but all my Water has to be room temp. I cant drink it cold, or it makes me sick. Pre-Op, I loved ice cold water

Since my surgery a year ago I get heartburn if I drink Water. I drink mainly crystal light lemonade and KROGER brand Vitamin water 0 calorie. Really like the orange and the lemonade favors. I have found I spend more on drinks now than I used to pre-op because of my issue with water.

I have to have flavored Water too. Don't really care too much for plain Water post op. Loved it preop!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
