I just had my sleeve done May 25, 2016. I am absolute pain. I feel like I have a lot of pressure on my chest and I'm having a hard time swallowing. When I do swallow I feel like I am being stabbed and when I called my doctor they gave me medicine and said to wait and see if it helps. Well now I am in more pain and I'm at a loss. Right now I am deeply regretting having this done. ANY suggestions will help me!

You should go see your doctor. And is your surgeon is not local - go to your primary care physician.

It could be severe reflux - they should have instructed you to take Prilosec or something similar. But definitely seek medical attention immediately. Go to the ER if necessary.

I take acid reflux medicine daily and it is not helping me at all. My husband just got home so I think I am going to go to the hospital.

I also had mine in 5/25 and I have been experiencing the spasms since day 1. My dr gave me diazepam which i take every 8 hrs. It helps with the spasms but it will still hurt when u swallow your food and once it reaches your belly. Its not a cure all, but better than feeling every single spasm.

@@NjGirlInNcWorld they gave me carafate which doesn't do much at all. I had some food today and it just made me sick. I am going back on Monday for them to do a CT scan to make sure everything is okay.

If your surgery was on the 25th would you not still be on liquids? I was on liquids for 3 weeks and mush for two after surgery before I hit solids. Maybe your body just isn't ready for food yet?

Ah, ok, it's just you said you had food so I was assuming solids. Some people find it harder to get back on to food at first, it seems like you're just taking a little longer. Keep an eye on the pain level, that's something to check out, but little and careful is you can really do. Protein Shakes if you can. Melt cheese in to Soups to up your calories.

I have weird pain, spasms, contractions, not sure what you call it, in the middle of my chest between my breast bone. It's like a weird painful pressure. Docs thought it was acid reflux and put me on Protonix, but that didn't help. At my last post op, she thinks it might be a nerve or muscular thing from the surgery itself. It's extremely painful but only lasts a few seconds. There's no rhyme or reason, it can happen if I eat, don't eat, sit up, lay down.. But I wish it would stop!

@@perforce what kind of Soup would be good with cheese, I am about to start adding the pureed foods and I am at a loss as what to eat, they gave me a book but all most of it says is cottage cheese and I don't like that lol I am afraid that it will take longer for me to actually eat, and when i see people eat "real" food I cry lol

@@debd80 Mine is just about like that as well. They said it was acid reflux too but I take my medicine so I know its not that, I had acid reflux bad before the surgery and was on Dexilant, stronger than nexium. Its kind of like I need to burp but it won't come out too, they said it was gas but I am burping and passing gas all the time. But I do know that I need to eat more I am not sure if the pain is from that but when I try to "eat" the pain gets worse. It feels like the liquid is stuck at the top of my stomach trying to get in, then I vomit.

Proceed immediately to The emergency department preferably at the same hospital that you had your surgery. Next time you call him he will see you ASAP. In fact give them your doctors name as soon as you arrive and tell them that he gave you some medicine that made the pain worse and they should call him right away. I bet he will take you seriously the next time.

You could have an infection a stoma a heart attack ...lots of things. You should NOT be having this much pain this far out. What medicine did he give you?

Also you should know if you had a hiatal hernia repair with your surgery you would have had this tightness in your chest all along. Kind of feels like you are wearing a way too tight underwire bra (even if you have no bra on).

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
