*MALE ONLY* How Frequetnly Did You Drop Sizes?

Recommended Posts

Are we talking monthly or every other month or so?

Did you have to endure the baggy sloppy look because the weight fell off so fast?

I am a nurse and was wearing 2XL scrubs, people were complimenting me on my weight loss but stating I needed to get me scrubs. I waited until I stabilized a bit and bought size L scrubs. In my casual life I would wander through the nearest thrift store for new clothes and 'dream' clothes. Again now that I've stabilized my weight I am slowly working to replace my clothes. My big purchase so far was replacing my leather coat... good luck on your journey

I dropped from a 50 to a 36 in pants and I pretty much dropped a size a month. I ended up getting a few pairs of inexpensive pants every size because of work (I hate the baggy look). I found that Haggar makes a great and cheap dress pant (about $20-25 on sale online) that did the trick. I dropped neck sizes too, but only from an 18 1/2 to a 17, so I didn't have to cycle through so many dress shirts. T-shirts and polos went from XXL to L, but those are acceptable baggy, so I used the XXLs until the L's fit. Now I am down to where I'd like to stay, so am starting to build up my wardrobe again. It's been incredible shopping in places that I never thought I'd be able to use. Best of all - I went from an XXL in boxer briefs to a S!!!!! Me in an S!!!! Best clothing NSV of all!

I went from a size 46 down to a size 33 in pants in 6 months and from a size 3X to a size Small in shirts in the same time interval. I used belts to keep my pants up during the transition. I had to cut the belts shorter and use a hole punch to make new belt holes.

In the end I replaced my entire wardrobe - pants, shirts, coats, underwear, jackets, belts. The only thing I retained was my shoes. But some individuals loose a shoe size or two or it affects the width of their shoe.

I haven't had my surgery but I started at 473 and am at 396 and I went from a 60 to a 54 waist in about three months. One thing I'm starting to do with pants is taking the waist line and making a pinch in the waist of about and inch and sewing it together. With a belt on you can't even notice. May be a little baggy around the thighs but I normally buy pants after dropping two sizes. My next paid will be a 50 and then 46 etc.

In six months, went from 56 waist to 46, then in the next six months down to a 42. I went from size 18EW shoes to 17W. Hat size from 8 1/4 to 8, not so much of a fat head.

I seem to be ever so slowly dropping inches but will likely be 40 waist permanently and 2xlt in shirts, 48xl in coats.... however, have to look ok for work and civic duties so have purchased whole ward robes on EBAY -- I find everything there, except buy new all socks and underwear, of course. In general, with careful shopping, I save 80% over new, and have a very nice set of clothes. I highly recommend EBAY for finding men's clothes. Womens are pretty expensive on EBAY but most guys (not me) don't like to clothes shop on EBAY, so prices are better.

I hate too baggy clothes. I went from a 40 to a loose 32 and xxl shirt to medium in 10 months. I bought 36" and a lot of 34". My old "skinny" size was 34 and I didn't really expect to go lower. I'm carrying weight differently though and am now in a loose 32."

I guess I didn't really pay much attention to measurements, only the weight on the scale. However I went from a size 64 pants 6 month's pre-op to currently a 46 nearly 10 months post-op. My neck has gone from a size 22 to a size 18. My boxers have gone from a size 5XL to 2XL. I'm still hanging on to a bunch of 5XL t-shirts just because I like them and don't want to give them up (these are very baggy!), but I can fit comfortably in a 3XL; 2XL looks okay standing up, but I still have a bit of a stomach at 263 pounds so 2XL is still not very flattering for me sitting down.

I would only purchase 2-3 pair of pants in a particular size (started at 52, now at 42) to save money. I found the shirts to be a bit more forgiving in terms of hanging on to the 5XL sizes (now gone) and the 4XL polo shirts in my stockpile. I need to buy a few 3XL shirts and be ready for the summer, when baggy is easier to get away with anyway.

I was getting new pants every 4 weeks at first, but things have slowed down and now a size will go 2+ months. I am VERY happy to donate these lightly used pants with NO HOLES IN THE THIGH OR CROTCH AREA to Goodwill.

I dropped from size 46 dress slacks to currently size 38. Dress shirts went from a 19 to currently 17-1/2 and almost ready for 17's. Shorts from 40's to 34's, and T-shirts from 4XL to XL. Being that my weight had gone up and down a lot prior to surgery, to start I had a good assortment of dress clothes in most of the sizes, only having to purchase t-shirts and casual clothes. I have now reached the end of what I had 'in stock' and have had to start purchasing clothes.

In fact today I'm loading up 8 boxes of clothes to donate to the local thrift shop that supports a no-kill animal shelter.

My loss stalled for several months, at my own hand, but now has picked back up so I hope to get to my goal and run through a couple more sizes. Spending money on clothes you will only wear for a short time isn't fun, but getting new smaller clothes is one of the non-scale victories that help to keep me motivated.

Pre op I was in a XL and sometimes 2X in tshirts and such for comfort. I was a 40-42 waist. In 4 months I have gone down to a L t shirt and polo's and they're somewhat loose. I work in the medical field and have always worn XL scrubs. About a month and a half ago I went out and bought new L scrubs, hoping they would last for a while. Negative. I just had to go down to a M, which is INSANE to me. The top is a little snug in the shoulders if I bend or flex a bit, but I hate the baggy/frumpy look. I'm certainly not complaining.

Forgot to say that now I can find clothing in Goodwill stores and other thrift stores, and in addition to EBAY, have the best wardrobe I have ever had in my life. My skinny wife has always been a big thrift store/second hand clothing buyer but at 4xl/5x/ could never ever find anything. Now, with 1xl/2xlt sizes for me, I can cherry pick some really nice clothing that gets lots of complements AND NEVER HAVE TO SHOP KINGSIZE OR CASUAL MALE EVER AGAIN!!!! What crappy pooriy made overpriced garbage those clothes were.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
