Food items to have Post Op

Recommended Posts

Getting my sleeve in Mexico on June 9th. What food items and Vitamins should I have in my house for Post op preparation? I want to be prepared when I come home so that I won't have to run out to the store to shop. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

@@sleeverv I'm still pre-surgery but I've got a list in my head already. Don't buy too much of anything - you may not be able to tolerate the taste post-op (even if you like it now). Protein shakes (pre-made), Protein powder, broth, sugar free Jello, chicken, veggie or beef stock/broth (even better if you make your own Bone Broth - more protein), greek yogurt (watch sugar content), crystal light or similar Water flavoring, bottled Water (might even want to try a few kinds).

Good luck!

you should meet with a nutritionist and discuss what you can have post op. Every plan is different

I was on liquids for two weeks, soft foods for two weeks, then all foods after that

Thank you. That makes a lot of sense.

Where do you buy the ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates?

For the clear phase, I really liked ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates (they gave me some in the hospital), sugar-free Popsicles, sugar-free Jello, crystal light/Mio drops, Decaf tea, etc.

My nut gave a shopping list of sorts.... I'm thinking it would be hard to say what you should be... It seems everyone on here is following different protocols... I'll be on full liquids on day 3.... I'm not required to do a 2 week liquid diet, just Clear Liquids the day before the surgery...

My surgeon's office had them. I also order them online through Bariatric Choice.< /p>

@innersurfergirl... How long did you stay on the clear phase post-op?

Mine was one week. But, I built on it so I still used some of the same things as I progressed through the phases.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
