Update on NANARENAN

Recommended Posts

As many will recall NanaRenan is the person that is having surgery for the 3rd time today for banding. The first time the anesthesiologist noticed a paper wasn't signed off by the cardiologist. She got that taken care of and then the 2nd time she went for surgery the anesthesiologist couldn't intubate her because he's an idiot.

She's giving it another shot today. I am supposed to call her husband tonight to see if she was FINALLY able to get the surgery but I called early. I believe it is around 3PM their time. I just called and there is no answer.

Many of us have been following her saga through this journey so I wanted to post updates as I get them.

I'll call her hubby again in an hour or so and bug him. :girl_hug:

Thanks for the update, I too was wondering if she finally made it through. Tell her congratualtions, and make sure to let her know that many of us were praying for her this time and would like to her from her when she's feeling up to it. (I'm so happy I feel, like I was the one getting banded)

HA! I know exactly what you mean about feeling like you were the one being banded. That's how I felt talking to her husband! I was SOOO excited. He likely thought I was pretty odd.

At least I did not introduce myself as BubbleButt, he likely would have hung up on me!

He is, Bubble, he is!! LOL

Thanks for posting my update. And thanks to everyone for the prayers and well-wishes!

This time I had a wonderful anesthesiologist and my poor surgeon had to work very hard -- it seems my feeble attempt to follow the liquid diet did not sufficiently shrink my liver. So he struggled, but THANK THE LORD, he did it and I'm among the banded now!!

He wanted me to spend the night in ICU, just as a precaution. I don't think they've ever seen a patient like me before -- I was as giddy as a little girl at her first slumber party!! I just chatted up a storm with everyone who'd stop and listen.

But I'm sorry -- the relief of finally having years of struggling to get the surgery over AND decades of obesity coming to an end.... it's just an indescribable feeling.

I'm uncomfortable, but not miserable. I did wait too long between meds today and am having hard time getting the pain back under control as well as it was before.

After the humiliation of the too fat liver, I've vowed to be a poster child for following all the post-surgery 'rules'. That said, I've sat here long enough, I need to get up and walk some and go do my breathing thingy.

Thanks again, folks!! Ya'll are so awesome!

It's good to have you back and banded!

Did you husband remember to give you a hug from me?

He didn't have a chance to forget....I was listening somewhat when he was talking to you -- they were making me suck on that floaty-thingie.

He still marvels at how people can form these instant bonds online with people they've never met -- may never meet. I'm glad you called HIM, cause it always reinforces when he knows it's not just something one-sided I've made up in my overblown imagination.

People really DO care.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
