I feel like Im completely alone :(

Recommended Posts

Hi, first of all english is not my first language so Im sorry if I make some mistakes while writing

My surgery (sleeve) is in 9 days and in the past few days I've been feeling completely alone. My family supports my surgery but lives on the other side of the country, my best friend is on the other side of the country too doing her residency and my boyfriend is the kind of people that freezes with medical stuff so he's been nervous and avoiding talking about my surgery at all costs.

And I just feel like I need to vent, you know? Im already on the liquid diet, it's hard, and I havent lost a single pound in 5 days!! Im nervous about so many things! I don't doubt about having my surgery, Im just anxious and nervous and I want to talk about it! And I feel I don't have anyone to talk.... Until two days ago my mom was the one I could talk all day, but now she's more nervous than me and asking every 2 hours if Im sure and sending me articles about "natural" alternatives to loose weight without surgery.

Now Im distracting myself with work, and concentrating on being my own support, but I can't help feel scared. It would be great to talk to someone.

Did any of you felt like this before surgery???

Milo, you are not alone...we are here to help and also let you vent when you need to.

It is natural to be nervous prior to such a life changing event, and it is natural for your boyfriend and mother to experience their own feelings of anxiety about this. They seem to really care about your health and well being.

Thanks for reaching out to the forum, there are some amazing people here that can be a good support. My surgery isn't until September so I can't comment on that. Best of luck with your journey, it is quite the life changing experience!

it is completely normal for both of you to be scared! this is a MAJOR life change. keep your eye on the prize. You'll be in my prayers this next two weeks as you go through this.

please don't worry about the scale in the next month. things will be crazy. you may loose weight you may not. you may retain fluids from surgery, you might not. The program works, I promise. just follow your surgeon's plan and it will be good.

Please let us know how you are doing. there's a lot of support here, and even though I do have a very supportive partner I couldn't do this without my peeps here who are going through or have gone through the process.

I agree with Christinamo- keep your eye on the prize! I had all sorts of crazy thoughts before and after. All my husband kept saying was if this is what you want. I didn't really find that supportive, he asked very few questions and all I could think he was thinking was how this was going to affect him and what I would be feeding him. The preop shake diet was rough for me too...hang in there.

My boyfriend is like that! Thanks for sharing it, I feel better knowing Im know the only one who felt like this before surgery. The preop diet is hard, but Im not really hungry so that makes it easier! I still have a few days to go...

Get to a support group if you possibly can! It is great to be with people who completely understand and want to talk about it (in detail, lol) as much as you do. I use this site as a support, but also have a good friend and an outside support group through the HMO that did my surgery. They also have a nutritionist and a therapist who help lead, so no one runs amok and we can ask lots of questions.

Good luck - you're not alone in this as long as you have the smarts to reach out like you did. Well done!

Thanks! Im seeing a therapist and its been helpfull. Talking and posting in here definetly helps a lot, we don't have many support groups in my country unfortunately, but maybe its time to start one!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
