Hi there, I'm Nikki from Sydney AUS and I have my surgery booked for Aug 22nd. I am excited but very apprehensive. Look forward to chatting with you and sharing experiences - I need all the support I can get. One question though. Is it normal to have second thoughts as your surgery date approaches? I'm hoping it's just last minute nerves!!!

Hi there,

I'm new myself and being banded on August 23rd, I think the liquid diet I am on gives me a good reason to have second thoughts. THis approach to weight loss is not an easy way out. But for me it is the only way out. I have been on too many diets to count and have lost but not maintained. I think everytime you make a major life decision, there will be second thoughts and I am sure after the surgery we will have rough days when we wish we could eat the world. But nothing worth having is ever easy. Remember there is gold at the end of our rainbow!!!!

Hello! A BIG welcome to LBT form a fellow Aussie (Brisbane, QLD)

It is totally normal to second guess yourself closer to the big day. Its a massive life change, and I think, to be expected.

Best of luck!

Hello Nikki : ) I can promise you having second thoughts is normal. I remember the few days before my surgery ( july 26th) I would stand in front of the mirror and stare at myself from the side in the mirror..I would think to myself..I don't look THAT fat, do I really need this ? At 250 pounds I needed it!LOL..Surgery was a breeze for me, I did not have any gas pains,,and the toots I got from the gas was nothing. Just remember to walk alot after surgery, it hurts some but well worth it as far as a quick recovery. I walked every hour after surgery. I made laps around the house. My birthday is one day before your surgery so I will remember the day! I will say a prayer all goes well for you! Good Luck!!

Thanks for the comments. I had my preop visit today and the surgeon was reassuring. I'm committed, nervous or not, so now I can't wait until the journey begins!

Hi Louise21, As you were banded one day prior to me, I was wondering how you are feeling now. I thought I would be fine 3 weeks out, but I have very bad wind? pain in my lower abdomen and I get occasional pain over my sternum which is very frustrating. I actually went today and they removed some air feom the band. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I know I really don't even feel like mushies at the moment.

I hope you are fairing better.

Nikki

Hey Nikki.

I did have some pretty nasty bloating for about a week but after that is passed pretty quickly. I havent actually had my first fill yet. I get my first one 6 weeks after surgery - so in about 2 1/2 weeks.

Iv been doing pretty well so far. I was only really sick for the first week.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
