Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was sleeved 12/22/15, was hospitalized a month later with sepsis..the following months 1/27/16-3/16/16 during those two months I was on a liquid diet..once I was allowed to eat it was with no restriction. I slowly started to eat but now I almost feel like I eat too much...heres a typical day

Bfast: 2 eggs

1/2 sandwich thin

Snack: cheese stick or fruit

lunch 2-3 oz of Protein, 1/4 c carb, 1/4 c veggie

Snack: almonds 1/4 c or Greek yogurt

dinner usually same as lunch...

One big problem lately is eating fruit or sugar free reduced fat ice cream late at night

I'm still losing weight tho

Hw:265

Sw:229

Cw: 167

I want any advice so I don't start my bad habits again..be gentle please ..God bless????

it looks to me like you are focusing on Protein - and getting in some veg - if you're loosing weight it seems like you're doing good, except I think that ice cream might get ya. if it is all the time. I am allowed some fruit. watch and make sure that you continue to loose weight until you get where you want to be.

Personally, I think you are a little carb heavy if this is a daily menu, but that's just my opinion.

I am a bit more "decadent" with my menu so I would sub that Breakfast bread with cheese on the eggs and a piece of ham, bacon, or sausage.

My snack would be cheese or cheese. Maybe a few grapes, but Protein with fruit, not just fruit so as to lessen it a bit.

What kind of carb are you eating for lunch/lunch? I'd skip that and sub cheese, but DAMN... I love cheese. If you are eating brown rice, Beans, or a high Fiber carb, that's different. :D

Your late late night snack needs to change IMO. Nuts, Jerky, cheese (what!?!?!), a bit of fruit, greek yogurt... I have no problem with Snacks as I graze most of my day, but I know that I personally have more hunger when I eat carbs right before bed.

But that said, this is working for you. It would not work for me. You are not me. :D You're doing great, so you do you. If you find that your weight loss starts to slow or you start to feel more hunger, drop some carbs. :)

You are doing fabulous.

I agree with Lipstick Lady. I also eat similarly. I do still use premier Protein shakes for most breakfasts and sometimes a 20-30 gram Protein Bar. At 6 months post op I'm losing 10-12 pounds a month. It seems so slow until I see someone who hasn't seen me is a month or two. They are floored. Gives me a wake up call.

If in doubt, add cheese!

You may want to make your own ice cream. You can make non sugar ice cream and add unflavored Protein Powder to it to make it more bariatric friendly. Personally I get in trouble with cheese and nuts because they are trigger foods for me. I do better with a Syntrax nector Protein Drink which is pure Protein and no carbs or fat.

At five months out, as I understand, it's normal for your restriction to allow this much food. And your body has been through a LOT. It's probably still recovering, which would mean a need for more calories than otherwise.

Are you tracking your intake? I'm diligent about it because I really drop too low on calories (according to my surgeon) and/or fiber if I don't track and adjust along the way.

Lipsticklady I feel you on that..I'm thinking I may be doing too much carb too, when I do have carbs its usually brown rice or like half of a red potatoe..my nutritionist gave me this meal plan..but I kinda feel like it's a lot of food..I've been noticing some days I can eat a lot...and then there are days like this week where I can hardly eat..kinda weird...

I track my food with my fitness pal and I can never get past 800...basically it never let's me "complete my day" because I'm not eating enough "calories"...my nutrionist said I wasn't eating enough ..but I only went to her once...????

I call those my feeding days and my non feeding days. Some days I can eat 1/2 a cup or so every two hours, some days I am lucky to eat 1/2 a cup twice a day.

MFP is not configured for WLS peeps.

You will always be under calories. Ignore that and use it to track you protein/carbs.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
