Getting Fluids In...UGH

Recommended Posts

Another thing you can do is buy/make a Water bottle with times marked on it like this:

I can't do it, because I need my Water to be ICE cold, so I need to use opaque, double-walled, insulated bottles. But if you don't need to keep ice in your water and can just use a clear plastic bottle, this would work well.

Where did you get this water bottle?

I didn't. I just found that picture on google. You could easily make your own with a clear plastic bottle and a Sharpie.

I've had this same problem and I'm 2 weeks in. I was so upset because I loved drinking Water pre-op. Honestly I've tried 4 different brands of Water (I know it's weird) and found that Evian with lots of ice helps. Try different temps and different brands of water... It works for me :)

This has helped my tremendously. I thought I was the only one having problems with the brands of water. I HATE Dasani and if that's the only brand around...well...I guess that bottle would last a looong while. Haven't tried Evian but will. I'm a Fuji girl right now which sucks because it's expensive. Oh well enough with my rambling. Lol Have a great day!

If u fail to plan, u plan to fail.

I'm so glad to see this topic! I'm 3 days post op and really struggling to get my fluids in. Today if I get in the entire bottle of Water I've been working on the last hour, I'll have gotten in 40 oz of Fluid, that's including a Protein shake. I'm supposed to get 60-80g Protein but so far today am sitting at 21. And it's 8pm :( I know it's something that I need to work up to, but how long does it take before you are reaching your Fluid and protein goals? I go back to work in about a week and a half, and am stressing about it a little.

You just have to keep working at it. I was able to get mine in more easily once the internal swelling went down by the two week mark.

Well I'm 3 weeks out and back at work and still barely get on 40 oz. I'm dr told me not to worry about how many grams of anything right now. I measure stuff in teaspoons at this stage.

I'm still pre- op but have a question.... See many post about how hard it is to get the Water down. Sounds like it would be easy, what makes it so difficult?

@ The restriction with liquids is temporary and due to internal swelling and trauma. Not everyone even experiences it at all and some people take longer than others to heal up. But once you are healed, liquid passes through your sleeve as quickly as you drink it, so it will no longer be a problem.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
