I'm new to this site. Hello :). I have my last dietician appt. at the end of this month and I was wondering how long it takes until I can get my surgery. I'm just so excited that I can't wait!!! After 6 months of dietician appts. I'm ready!

After my final dietician appointment, the surgeon submitted my compliance packet on the same day - a Thursday. I got my approval on Monday. My surgery was scheduled for the surgeon's next available opening which was two weeks later. This is with BCBS Federal. Your insurance may be one of those that plays games with you and makes you wonder and wait.

Hang in there. For me, the pre-op requirements were worse than the actual surgery and recovery.

it really depends. Your insurance might need you to wait a certain amount of time, or your doctor's schedule might be full.

you also need to pass a bunch of medical tests

for me I went for my first consultation in the beginning of June 2015 and I was sleeved September 2 2015

The wait for this surgery is the worse thing ever.....(no matter how long it is)....My wait was not near as bad as most others....just took me two months to get through all the hoops......But it just amazes me what insurance companies make some folks go through to get this surgery.....What other procedure do you have to jump though so many hoops before you can be approved??

I understand the need for education prior to the surgery as this is a surgery to "really" need to understand before you jump in to it, but all the insurance companies that have weight loss requirements or don't allow someone to gain even one pound over a 6 month timeframe....that's all just nuts in my mind!!!. Luckily my insurance is not one of those...........So that's my little rant! :)

Do the dietician appts go by what kind of insurance you have or is this basically standard?

Yes, my insurance requires me to do 6 months of dietician appointments. I can lose weight I just can't gain any.

I work for the state so I have pretty good insurance bcbs. I've done my psychological visit, sleep study (found out I have sleep apnea) ultrasound (check my gallbladder) and six months worth of dietician appointments ( at the end of this month)then I see the surgeon to schedule my surgery. It actually went by pretty fast. I was just wondering how long it takes to get to the surgery so I can schedule my vacation

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
