How Many Pounds until People started discussing your weight loss?

Recommended Posts

It really is a double edged sword, as someone said. I enjoy the comments, because I remember feeling like I was being ignored...like the elephant in the room. But when they say something now, I also think to my self, "just wait til I lose 70 MORE pounds!". I find it hard to take the compliments sometimes. I haven't told many about the surgery, and I give them the usual reasons...protein first, eat slow, no carbs or sweets...and the gym bag packed and ready to go under my desk helps explain!! It took 40 lbs. before people at work noticed, but they were used to me dieting - and failing before, so I think they were being cautiously kind. I recently started wearing clothes that fit (instead of bag) and that made everyone comment. Weird tho...someone who had not seen me in 8 months made a big deal about how my FACE had changed...I lost so much in my face! Dang! My face didn't lose 70lbs! Ha! Could they possibly notice the 16 inches gone from my belly?!? Another weird reaction...if I am with my DH, people rave about how much he has lost, ad nauseum. He has lost 20-30 lbs. He is wonderful tho. He always tuns to me and says but Cindi is doing great, she's lost 70lbs! Immediately, they turn back to him, and ask how he lost the 20 lbs. Go figure. Must be easier to comment on a man's weight loss.

There is so much adjusting to do menatally, isn't there?

My husband started really noticing around 15-20 pounds. I'm an apple shape ;-( so my stomach started going down as well as my face. My mom notices my face and my buggy butt pants since I don't fill them out like I used to. Now that I'm at 26 pounds people at work are starting to notice. I recently got contacts and all of a sudden people are talking about my hair. ???? People really aren't all that observant are they?

I just had surgery 9 days ago and lost 11 lbs since then. But I also had lost 20 lbs prior to surgery. But the first person to notice the loss was someone we see only sometimes in the stores. So i guess my answer would be 30lbs. everyone else close to me knew about it and sees me everyday so maybe they don't notice it cause they see us all the time. But any loss is till a loss, whether someone notices it or not.

Someone noticed yesterday which made me feel great. The only people that know about my surgery is my husband and my mother. I did not want people to judge me and think I should be losing more then I am, besides I'm a very private person and would hate for people to have an opinion of me and my progress.

I am down 39 lbs. and people are commenting on how much weight I am losing. I love it!

Sooooooo much better than those stares that say " you poor thing, when are you going to stop putting on so much weight? Do something."

I can't wait to lose 39 more pounds and get even more compliments.

Funny, but I don't think even one person said a thing until I lost 80 pounds....I was hoping because they didn't notice how big I got. hahahahaha, but now I think some of them think I have lost enough and are saying enough already....

I was out of work for 3 weeks of medical leave for my gallbladder and lap-band surgeries. I lost 24 lbs and 18.75 inches by the time I went back to work. A lot of coworkers could tell that I had lost weight. Especially in my face. Now some of my coworkers are trying to call me skinny. They are really supportive but, I think that is an oxy-moran right now. That's like calling some really tall and buff guy "Tiny". It just doesn't fit yet. If they are calling me skinny now, what are they going to call me after I've lost 100+ pounds. Sometimes I just don't understand people. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've lost somewhere about twenty five lbs so far and if I don't mention it, no one notices,. As I keep telling my husband, "it's like peeing in the ocean and expecting the Water level to rise.":clap2:

I think Im not doing good at all. Two months and only 20 pounds....

I just had my surgury sept 5th. And with 20 lbs off recently people have noticed I am losing weight. I find it kinda funny. Most of my male friends notice and are really encouraging. And my female friends dont say too much, and if they do know I have lost 20 lbs I find that they kinda notice everything I do. If I dont have alot to eat they comment and they are always trying to get me to eat bad things or really late at night. I dont think they do it on purpose i think i just notice it more.

I've lost nearly 40 pounds and the only comments I get from co-workers (who don't know about my band) are random things like "That shirt is too big for you." (!!!) I just wanna scream - THATS CAUSE I LOST 40 POUNDS! Haha. But I don't.

For me it was more like 90 (then again, I needed to lose twice that, so it's somewhat understandable). I remember when I'd lost 75 and was annoyed that people weren't really commenting (not that I wanted their comments -- it's a double edged sword).

WOW Julie, more than 200 lbs lost, that's such of inspiration !! Thank you!

I have only lost 18 lbs, but my mom,DH and close friends are noticing that my face is getting thinner and my pants are getting baggy. I haven't told anyone other than my mom and DH about the surgery, so everyone else just thinks I am dieting. It feels really good when someone makes a comment about the weight that I am losing. :biggrin1: I can't wait to lose all of my weight and see what kind of reactions I get then.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
