Im 11 days post-op. Soft food stage.

I feel energy is low understandably since im not taking in as much. I feel i am still finding my way with food like what goes down easily and what doesn't . yogurts and banana are good, egg not so much. I don't feel hungry either ! its quite strange. Water and liquid intake is a struggle, i need to work on it.

How hard is it to hydrate enough during your workouts? I am really nervous about that.

@@Seastars I'm 5 weeks out. Clearly my stomach is no longer so swollen. Drinking Water is no longer a problem. Keeping my workouts modest, but just finished 25 min. on the elliptical and drank 10 oz during that time. You'll be fine.

Thanks, Silver! My surgeon told me yesterday that I can't hike or bike hills for several weeks after surgery, because she thinks I won't get enough liquid in. She thinks I should just walk/elliptical for those weeks. I am really hoping she's being overly conservative - I have June 22 surgery and do NOT want to miss out on hiking during the beautiful weather in June & July! (Last weekend I hiked about 4-5 hours per day, with moderate elevation gains, and needed about 320oz Water each day.) I seriously think I should start practicing "constant sipping." Sounds like it will be a good post-op skill.

You might want to plan some lovely hikes on level ground for the first month or so. I love to hike but don't think I could hydrate that much yet! Honestly my biggest problem early on was remembering to drink. I could only get in an ounce or two, then would get distracted and forget to drink for an hour or two. Practice sounds like a good idea...

Thanks! It's so great to have this forum, to get real feedback on things I think may be a challenge later. I may also practice with a camelbak - I've got one but usually just use bottles. Camelbak would better suit constant sipping. Flatter hikes are a smart idea, too.

How's the reflux? Any problems?

Hey there! I was a lower BMI going in for revision from band to sleeve (34.6). I'm 6 weeks out and feel like I could do anything. I live in Florida and it's HOT. Hot hot!!! I'm outside most of the day and if anything, I have a lot more endurance than before and no issues at all with staying hydrated. I kind of don't understand the hydration issue some people are talking about... After the initial swelling goes getting fluids in is no problem- or maybe I was just lucky!!

I also went on an overnight kayaking trip exactly a month out from surgery. Just me and my 12 year old daughter. We kayaked the entire day, set up camp totally on our own, kayaked the next day and loaded gear into truck. Again, no problems at all. I packed a lot of low cal Gatorade and Water in my mini cooler and of course too my Protein shakes. :)

I totally agree with others that your should listen to your doctor and take it slow to begin with. I just wanted to share my experience- it's been so much easier physically than I ever anticipated. The food and hunger part is different- that's mental work! But I'm so glad my body is enjoying the challenge.

Enjoy all the activities, stay safe and hydrated! :)post-77434-14648121292799_thumb.jpg

I am a month out and feeling a lot like jaxmom. We are moving the middle of June and I have packed the entire house and moved quite a bit of stuff up and down stairs. My energy level has been good also and definitely no problems getting fluids down other than remembering lol. I think the camelbak is a great idea...you can sip every 10 steps!! Good luck to you and let us know if you have any other questions.

RNYoyo and jaxmom, can I give you big, squishy (on my side only, you leanbodies!) hugs? You guys and silverthreads have really brought my smile back. (That and learning I don't have to do the liver diet, HALLELUJAH.) Thank you!!! And way to go on your strong, healthy recovery!

I am just over 7 months post op sleeve. I was a fairly low bmi when i had surgery, 35.8 i think. My goal was 175, i am now at 166-7 or so, i think thats a 23.1 bmi. I exercise heavily, which i think was a large part of my success. i am currently training for a triathlon, exercise and lift weights 9 times a week.

@@Seastars I haven't had any reflux problems at all. I do take my omeprazole every morning as directed, but my surgeon says I can try skipping it when I'm about 2 months out.

The big thing on the hiking and hydration is you don't want to get half way up a ridge or something, unknowingly dehydrated and then get into a heat crisis. It can come on you very quickly and hopefully you'll have someone with you because your judgement quickly becomes impaired. If you feel this coming on of course you need to get out of the sun, rest and hydrate! Perhaps too much information but I'm a former Army officer -- and I've seen it happen even to young healthy soldiers (often because they've been drinking the night before and are thus dehydrated) and it seems to come out of nowhere. Just don't put yourself at risk needlessly -- plan a nice safe hike that you can enjoy without overdoing it in those early weeks/months until you've had some experience with your new situation and know your new limits (if any).

Have fun! You've inspired me -- I think I might walk around the local lake this evening, it's a beautiful spot!

Awwwwww.... Yes!!!! But I warn you I'm a hugger too and I've been told I hug too hard. Is there really such a thing?

I say no!

Here is a hug for finding out you don't have to do the liver diet. I'm doing a little dance for you too. La la la la la.

This surgery has released some crazy surge of energy in me to the point where my poor family has taken to hiding from me (the dog too- traitor!).

Next week my kids and I head down to Miami where they will go to summer camp for 7 weeks. It's a science and archeology camp right on Biscayne Bay. They get to kayak, fish, dissect sharks, tromp through the Everglades and check out Indian middens. The problem is they won't let me in!!! Something about an "age limit".

Pffft.

So I've devised a mommy camp- I bike, kayak, take yoga classes and can mango chutney that no one will eat. This will be our 4th year doing this and last year the heat got to me... Now that I've had surgery I cannot WAIT. I love the idea of a camelback for my adventures. Ok, off to REI to make that purchase!

Don't forget the sunscreen people! :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
