@@Lizardlady,

40 carbs??? That's bananas. From what I understand, the human brain needs at least 60 to properly function.

Maybe in the beginning when we're not able to ingest so much, but that is a very low amount

After some of the posts here about what people are eating, I'm definitely going to bring this up to my nutritionist and see what she has to say because now it's a pretty big concern of mine.

I eat out a lot as i travel a lot for work. I use pretty much steadfast rules: no fried foods other naked chicken wings, no soda at all (dont want it). Otherwise i make sure its Protein, vegetables, and some fruit. I avoid bread and Pasta as well. After hitting goal weight, i had to up my calories to over 2000, otherwise i start losing weight again. I generally track this. My life is pretty much back to normal, except that i just eat smaller portions....they dont seem smaller to me though...perception has shifted

@@ecoreen94 I do weigh my food unless it comes in a single serving portion or I am splitting something in half, like a can of sardines. I think you have to do what works for you. For some people, weighing is essential. For others, it can be disheartening. I would say whatever you choose, keep in mind that you may need to reevaluate if you find it isn't working for you (this goes for everyone).

ETA I do think weighing is crucial for everyone early on. At that point you aren't getting reliable signals about how full you are and you don't want to damage your early progress by eating the wrong portions.

I agree with bufflehead, I thought I could avoid measuring/weighing but I realize, often, I'm too generous w/my portions if I don't weigh. So until you get the hang of portion size, it may be best to do it early on.

I have read where quite a few people don't weigh and have had great success.

This is not a one rule fits all lifestyle. Do what works for you.

I weigh and measure my food 20.5 months post-op.

I use My Fitness Pal to plan and track my food.

It's what works for me.

I've lost 100 pounds and am maintaining at 135 pounds now. Never, ever did this well at weight loss or weight maintenance in my life.

Ever.

Where did you read this? There is a lot of research that you don't need carbs, especially man made ones to function.

Most of the carbs we have now didn't even exist for most of human history.

@@Lizardlady a rule of thumb 45 grams of carbs per meal. This is a typical diabetic diet. I think what you have to keep in mind is fruit is a good carb because it has Fiber, and a lot of veggies have carbs in them too. 40 carbs per day is unrealistic and unhealthy.

I think the 40 grams of carbs should be 40 grams of NET carbs.

Carbs - Fiber - sugar alcohols = NET carbs

An apple may have 8 carbs but with its fiber, you may only have 4 or 5 net carbs.

19 months post surgery. Been at goal for 14 months or so. This is what I ate yesterday. I do typically on the weekends have a few treats. ie last weekend I had one champagne cupcake, one slice of pizza, a bowl of Cereal and a few hot tamales at the movies. Not an entire box. I can eat anything I don't dump but will feel nauseous if I eat an entire box of hot tamales so I ration them out into a baggie for the movie . I still get my Protein in on the weekends but have what I want and then I am on the wagon come Monday. Again this works for me as I have a sweet tooth and I pretty much workout everyday. And I have never counted anything except Protein and Water.....I love my nutritionist for understanding it's just not my thing.

5 am coffee with Creamer and scoop of GENEPRO protein 30 G take all my Vitamins except my Calcium

Workout

7 am Shakeology shake vanilla with added strawberries

9 am Old fashion oats with blueberries and 1/2 scoop protein

12 pm salad with salmon take calcium chews

3pm Combat Crunch Protein Bar

6pm Taco salad with ground turkey...no shell

8 pm Skinny pop snack

Once your at goal you need to find what works for you. I keep my weight within a 4 lb range.

Good luck-

LA

Oh how I wish I was at goal, but I'm only starting. I've had a good head start with 41 lbs list prior to and since surgery 1 week ago. Can someone tell me if the weight loss stops or slows down once you stop drinking the all liquids and go to the pureed stage, then the regular food stage. What should I expect? I had the sleeve, and I'm so happy I'm finally able to lose weight.

@@MargieW

Expect a stall at around 3 week out. Don't panic! It happens to 99% of us and is completely normal. Google the Dreaded Three Week Stall to see why it happens.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
