BM for me, yes, but not waiting on mother nature. I took remedies that my doctor recommended. He said Miralax, but if that doesn't do the job, Milk of Magnesia. I felt SO much better after MoM got the job done yesterday.

@@Maggie Journey Well like I haven't had enough problems, I've had diarrhea ever since I came home from the hospital...But I do have some good news! I just "almost" finished an 8oz Protein drink.....first one I've been able to drink since surgery....I have about an ounce left and I put it in the frig and will try to finish is in a little bit.........This is huge for me because I've not really be able to drink anything worth measuring! So I'm hoping I'm turning a corner......I know once I'm able to get a few calories in me I'll start feeling a little better.....I can't believe I haven't felt the first little bit of hunger even though I've not taken in more than 100 calories in a day since surgery.....Yes I know that's bad! but if I can't do it, I can't do it.....I'm working very hard to be able get the fluids and Protein it's just been very slow going for me.....

So I will finish the rest of this Protein shake this evening and my goal tomorrow will be to manage two.....we shall see!!!

@@kmorri, I am so sorry to see the difficulties you're experiencing. It's exhausting to be getting only 500 calories, let alone 100 calories. I think at this point it's (#1) get your fluids and (#2) get your Protein in if you can.

This whole process is very much just one day at a time! I keep my spirits up by focusing on the fact I'll feel better tomorrow, next week, etc. And I've been looking at the success stories and before/after pics for hope and inspiration.

Hugs!!!!

Did you take pain meds at home? I have been (liquid hydrocodone) and my doc said that that can really slow things down. I'm nervous

I've not had this problem at all in fact I've had a little diarrhea.....But if you're suffering or uncomfortable just call your surgeon's office and they will tell you what you can take............if you're not uncomfortable I say don't worry....you're not eating enough to produce very much...Hang in there!

I had surgery on the 17th and had bm yesterday- dr office told me I wouldn't have one until I started eating - I had cottage cheese in the am. I didnt strain - no assistance needed from meds. I think if you drink enough you will be fine.

Day 3 post-op and I am HUNGRY. Am I the only one?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How's everyone doing with hunger? Day by day I get more and more hungry and thirsty! I have absolutely no problems getting fluids or Protein down so at this point it's really mind over matter - I am having to make sure I go slowly and don't over consume but I feel like I could eat a lot!

Still hungry here. Everything has gone down fine including cream Soup, yogurt, pudding, and Protein shakes. Today I got out of the house with my family and had a bit of nonfat, no sugar added frozen yogurt. It was good. It's not sweets I'm wanting though, ready for something savory.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
