Post-surgery with minimal weight loss

Recommended Posts

You and I had our surgeries 3 days apart. Mine was 6-25.... I also have only lost a total of 19 lbs! NO fills yet, today is my first day for that... How did you get more than 2cc's-? I can't beleive you have had 2 fills already!

I am thinking maybe it depends for each person how much TOTAL weight they need to lose, or what size the band is. The ones that are losing much faster might have more excess? You know, like with a regular diet, I would always lose MUCH faster (total #'s) than a friend that only needed to lose 10 lbs before they were IDEAL.....

Do you think you moved to fast on your diet? I was on liquids for 2-3 weeks then mushies by my 4th week i started stage #4 I had my surgery on 6/28/07 I lost 19 lbs in 3 weeks and now I'm 6 weeks out and haven't lost a pound, in fact I gained 2 lbs, a had my first fill of 2cc's didn't help 1 week later recieved 3.5 cc's total hopefully I'll feel full

Don't worry, the days of woe and second guessing yourself are inevitable. I remember having them a lot last month, right after I threw away my scale. I ended up losing 8lbs last month which was a nice boost.

But point is, I've had 3 fills now.. and still not where I need to be with restriction. I've finally come to terms with myself to just be patient(which I am NOT).

But.. do as I say, not as I do. Be patient

Until you're properly restricted, you're going to worry that it's not going to work, that you wasted time (maybe money), you're letting yourself down, you're a failure, etc.. It comes with the territory.

It will get better.. go browse before and after pics, it always gives me a good boost!

You aren't alone. I had my surgery in May 2007, did quite well on liquids, but I feel no restriction at all. I have had one fill and am hoping the next one will help. I know L.B . is just a tool to help, but at this point I can't see it helping...Good luck.

I agree with you. I can eat and I do not get full. I was banded on 7-30 and I have lost a total of 20pounds, but I dont eat! I am scared that I will stretch out my pouch! I am so confused to!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
