Surgery date June 6th. Panic.

Recommended Posts

So I was scheduled for surgery in January. I had a panic attack in pre op and ended up leaving. I've rescheduled and am set for June 6th. However I am avoiding even thinking about this surgery...every time I do I feel as though I'm going to throw up. I'm terrified of basically everything from dying to complications post op, to having to give up my horrible eating habits.

I know this is what is best for my health. I know it is best for my daughter and parenting. I know I do not want to end up like my parents (health wise). I want to break the cycle.

I'm just scared. For every 10 positive I hear a negative. It's not worth dying for at this point, but I don't want it to get to the point where it actually is worth dying for.

Ugh.

@@gmole85 - I was scared too. See if they can give you something to take on the way to the hospital so it will take the edge off the anxiety. that's why I wanted to be the first in the OR. I didn't want to wait in pre-OP.

You will be fine. Do as you are told pre-op and post-op. ASK questions. Write them down so you don't forget!

I was told I could hydrate as late as midnight and I was thankful for that as well.

Being afraid is normal. Have you been seeing a therapist since your panic attack in January? If not, I would schedule an appointment before June. Talk it out with someone. If you don't have the surgery - what will your life be like...in 2 year? In 10 years? Here's a good article about emotional eating and I recommend reading the First Aid Kit for Living after Bariatric Surgery. Good luck!

I have done the therapy thing and it didn't help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
