Did anyone's doctor use the Robot?

Recommended Posts

Mine! I work in IT...in Healthcare...so when I got to the OR, I immediately found the Da Vinci robot and stared in awe. My incisions never bothered me. And my pain was a minimum after day 4!

My surgeon used the DaVinci too, I could've opted out, but I had no issues. My incisions are almost completely healed after almost 4wks. I didn't see the inside of the OR I remember the CRNA talking about Versed then I remember being wheeled into my room and seeing my husband post op.

My doctor used it as well. The only part he did beside me and not at the joy stick was the ending where he removed the stomach. The only incision that bothered me was the large one to the left of my belly button.

my surgeon uses it, but honestly I haven't looked into it. Is it suppose to reduce pain and recovery time?

She sure did. No postop gas pain from inflation. Only incisional pain was from where they took out the stomach. Never anything stronger than Tylenol once I was home.

Yup. My doctor did my surgery robotically and besides some nausea from the anesthesia I had almost no pain! :)

Excuse me for my not knowing....but what the heck is a Robot? I keep reading how it reduces pain and recovery time...you got my attention

It's when the surgeon uses a robotic assistant to perform the surgery. Usually the Davinci Surgical System. It's really neat, once the incisions are made and tools placed, the surgeon controls it from a separate station. It can be controlled with extreme precision, and the surgeon doesn't have to keep looking away from the instruments to watch the monitors, so it often results in faster healing and less pain.

I actually could see the robot that my surgeon used for a minute, right before they put me under. It looked so cool!

Thank you. I will definitely be asking my surgeon if she uses this system.

My surgeon was on tv and talked a little about the robot and showed it working. Here is the link for anyone interested- http://legacy.king5.com/story/entertainment/television/programs/new-day-northwest/2014/08/26/providence-medical-center-robotic-weight-loss-surgery-davinci/14621133/

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
