Just curious-are you ever able to drink with meals again?

You can.

I do sometimes but its just a sip or two. You really won't want to. Drinking with a meal can mean being full, and being full for most of us is uncomfortable and something we try to avoid. You might have a sip or two to help something go down, but you aren't going to sit and chug Water and eat. I'm sure that changes the further out you are.

It is one of those things you can do, like we can do a lot of things post-op, it just depends on if you should and do you want to.

Most people get to the point where they can. My team says that for continued success, it's an important rule to follow. I've done it accidentally a few times and it made me feel weird and uncomfortable, so I keep following the rule. Once you get used to it, it isn't a big deal IMO.

There's really nothing you can "never do again" if your body will let you. I don't because I'm trained not to now. People do it all the time.

Will I be able to ? Perhaps.

Will I ever want to ? I can safely answer that now......the answer is a firm NO. I am very comfortable in how I approach meals without drinking. It's second nature and there is a benefit in following this. I will continue with this method.

I usually don't stop drinking very long prior to eating....maybe just a couple minutes or so....but I wait 35-45 mins afterwards to resume drinking....always and every time. It's simply more comfortable living this way.

Thanks everyone. For some reason this is the hardest thing for me and I have been working on it so I get used to it.

I drink with meals, but it means less food at a time, and mindfulness. Because overdoing one or the other means puking.

I had band for over 11 1/2 years and I never drank with meals during that time. It was hard but a rule that I followed. When band was removed in December I started drinking with meals. This is one of the "rules"'that I found the most destructive. I followed the rule and had no problems with my pouch.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
