For those who did preop liquid diet...weight loss?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm curious what you all lost on the preop liquid diet (I'm doing 10 days starting next week) and in the first 2 weeks post op. Partially pure curiosity and partially because I'm supposed to get fitted for new uniforms at work tomorrow and I'm wondering if I should just tell them to make a size smaller than I am now. I wont be into the new ones until after I come back from surgery. Surgery should be 9th (tentative), returning to work the 26th.

It varies so drastically, I don't think there is any possible way for you to predict. Plus, even with a massive loss, you may not go down any clothing sizes. I think I had to lose like 40 pounds before I went down even one pants size.

I lost 11 pounds on my pre-op diet (15 days) and 14 pounds in my first month post-op. Some people lose like 20+ pounds on pre-op, some people only lose 4. Also, keep in mind that not all pre-op diets are created equal. Mine was very strict and only totaled up to 450 calories a day. Some people eat more like 1200 calories a day, depending on their guidelines.

Like @@JamieLogical, I didn't go down in clothing size until I hit around 35 pounds lost. My pre op diet was strict as well with a long two weeks of liquids afterwards. Pre op I lost 13 pounds and only about 7 pounds the first two weeks post op. It's hard to know what to say about your uniform. Good luck on your life changing journey!

Thank you all for your responses. I knew it would vary but was just curious to hear what people lost at the begining. Getting so excited and worried now that its only a couple weeks away!

I only lost four pounds on my two week liquid pre op diet, but post op my weight came off much quicker.

If I was you I would order one size smaller in the uniforms. I wear uniforms in my job too. I ordered one size smaller and then as I lost weight I would get them altered and then reorder as the altered uniforms got too big.

Good luck

I lost 20 lbs in a two week pre-op at 1000 calories, and that included some serious cheating as well, so adjust upward by as much as 500 calories. I did a lot of exercise to compensate, as I just couldn't stick with 1000 (I can do it with the sleeve just fine). I also found going to liquids the last three days before very helpful.

First two weeks post-op was roughly another 15 lbs. However, as @@JamieLogical said, that may not equal a size, as much of the weight is Water and glycogen storage in your liver. After that, size will follow weight loss a little more closely.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
