Eating regular food 8 days after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am only 8 days after surgery and I can tolerate regular food. Is this ok, normal, or bad. I am eating very small amounts, and I am never hungry, what gives? I started with liquids and progressed through soft foods, but have now over the last couple of days tried oatmeal, a couple of small pieces of bagle, some cut up chicken, a scrambled egg, and everything has gone down fine. I am sticking to very small amounts of everything, but so far no complications. Am I lucky, or is because I have had no adjustments? Any comments would be welcomed.

Steve

You're not lucky or unlucky, you're normal. However, you're probably going against the advice of your doctor by eating solid food so soon, and may be compromising your healing. Whether you feel it or not, your stomach and esophagus are still recoving from having a foreign object placed in their way, and it takes time for them to heal fully from the invasion.

MOST people find that when they go on to solid food after surgery they can eat just fine. Most, I'd even venture to say, claim to feel as though they were not banded at all. So you're normal on that score. But you are testing things by starting early, and that is not necessarily wise or safe.

I agree. I had to wait 4 weeks for regular foods but followed the doctor's orders to the T because I was self pay and didn't want any problems and so far so good one year later. I would really do what my surgeon said. If he said food was okay then I wouldn't worry.

Alexandra,

You mentioned ~~ Alexandra

banded 8/20/03 -- Dr. Abkin, Morristown NJ

band removed 4/9/07 due to slippage frown.gif

rebanding scheduled for 8/13/07 biggrin1.gif

I am pre-band and not heard to much about re-banding. How did you know that the band slipped?

Curious!!

Yes, you would tolerate it since you havenot had your first fill yet. If you eat too quickly the dr's say you can hurt the healing process and worse, 'cause a slippage. Give yourself the gift a great health.....eat lquids and soft foods while you should be......

Cheers to your health!! And all the best......

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
