Self Pay and Denied Financing...Help....

Recommended Posts

I have applied with a couple financial institutions and been denied for both (I have an 8 year old bankruptcy). I don't want to ask for a co-signer. I am in Arizona and have applied with Capital and some other bank. Does anyone know of a bank that will approve "sub par" credit? Is anyone else facing this issue? Any advice on this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!:help:

Your very welcome. I know of more companies as well, but in my experience, those 2 are the easiest to work with.

So after I verified that my insurance was not an option at all, I tried to do financing. I only tried emedical though and I was denied. The denial wasn't entirely unexpected - it's the first thing I have applied for since our BK and except for the car and house (that I haven't been even a day late on), we haven't got anything actively reporting to the bureaus.

Luckily, all hope is not lost - I am just going to wait until January when my new year of FSA kicks in and combine that with a 401k loan... It'll wind up costing me a lot less in saved interest and since FSA funds are taken pre-tax, I figure it will save me about 15% on the total surgery cost!

Except for the waiting (which is relatively short in the grand scheme), its a win-win!

Did you try CareCredit?

You can apply online and they have very low interest rates. I use them for all of my dental care and have been approved for additional funds for lapband - just not enough to cover.

They have an easy acceptance (within minutes).

I too am now thinking of waiting until 1st of the year. I need to change insurance to one that would cover me without having 5 yr over 40 BMI, supervised diet, etc.

I really want it now.... not next year!!

Best of luck to you!

I haven't found anyone who will give me a loan yet.....but I will. It took me nearly three years to get my lap band...I don't think that any of this is going to be one hundred percent as easy as it seems for all of us.

We have to stand at the end of the rope (one the tug of war game) and just hold on until the other side gets tired...and pull as we walk backwards until our side wins.

(I figured that one out in a tug of war game in basic training at Lackland Air force base....and they thought that all we did was march.) lol

Hi

Since I got my lap band installed in Detroit, MI and I live in Southwest Missouri I am forced to drive four hours away to Dr. Malley's clinic in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

Could you or anyone else tell me why other doctor's wont see me? There is a Lap Band Dr. in Branson which is 12 miles away but he wont see me.

Dr Webber did my surgery at Harper hospital.

Here is a little something that you should know.

You and a family member will get to stay at the "hotel" on the hospital grounds for two days. Your guest will be able to enjoy a continental Breakfast of donuts and coffee. There are no restaurants close to the hospital except McDonald's (we searched high and low).

Make sure that you take $400.00 with you for your post op meds!!!! I didn't and was horror stricken because no one told me anything about the meds.

Luckily the Veterans Hospital was down the street, I took my prescription there and was given all of my meds within an hour!!! (I'm service connected vet.)

I have been in chronic pain resulting from a broken back twenty some years ago (and hate them) so I left the pain medicine at the va pharmacy.

Luckily, I didn't even need an aspirin two days post surgery on the long drive from Detroit to Southwest Missouri.

Take care, god bless and I can't wait until you see the weight melt...It's great.

Thanks so much for all of that info!

My husband used to live and work in Detroit. He actually worked at the VA hospital there. We both work for the VA in Chicago.

Anyway, we are planning to fly in a day ahead and book a hotel somewhere familiar. They told me I'd have one overnight stay at Harper.

Glad you sailed on through.

What sort of meds did you have to get filled?

Were they pain meds?

Thanks!!

To the OP:

Just a thought, but maybe a night job or weekend job with the proceeds dedicated to the surgery is a viable idea? Most people have to jump through hoops for a year or more anyway, why not take that time to get some cash.

Alternatively, can you sell a car, boat, etc.?

Hey there,

I don't know the names of the meds, but one is for acid reflux or gas. The other is for blood clots, it is injected in the stomach daily for two weeks and the last one is hydrocodone. As I said before I told the primary care doc at the VA that I did not want the pain med because my friends all said that they hardly needed to take them.....

You might want to check out the "International Hotel" at Harper hospital. It isn't bad at all and check out time is 11:00 on the next day...believe me, you will be in such a hurry to get out of the Hospital (they're nice) that you wont have a problem. The hotel staff are all friendly and your fellow hotel mates have a lot in common with you.

Besides, you can save that money for a nice new outfit to wear back on the plane. lol

Good luck again. Now that all of us here on Lapband talk will be rooting for you and waiting for you to write as soon as you can.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
